Although biological scaffolds containing bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) have been widely used for osteogenic therapy, achieving stable and controlled release of BMP-2 remains a challenge. Herein, a novel BMP-2 sustained-release system composed of carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS)/polyethylene glycol (PEG)/heparin sulfate (HS) (CMCS/PEG/HS) was constructed with a Schiff base reaction, yielding an injectable hydrogel for the release of BMP-2 in a controlled manner. For the CMCS/PEG/HS/BMP-2 hydrogel, the HS component had a negatively charged structure, which can bind to positively charged growth factors and prevent early hydrolytic metabolism of growth factors, thus achieving sustainable release of BMP-2.

The synthesis of hackmanite has been a topic of research for nearly 100 years, but up to now, the reported synthesis methods inevitably use reducing H to introduce the F-center through high-temperature calcination to make it change color, which extremely hinders its energy efficient large-scale synthesis before commercial applications. Herein, we present a facile route to synthesize hackmanite by using organic sulfur source thiourea as a precursor in a mild and hydrogen-free process. The synthesized hackmanite exhibits UVC-specific response, fast response, high contrast coloring, and fast fading at room temperature.

Traditional petroleum-based food-packaging materials have poor permeability, limited active packaging properties, and difficulty in biodegradation, limiting their application. We developed a carboxymethylated tamarind seed polysaccharide composite film incorporated with ε-polylysine (CTPε) for better application in fresh-cut agricultural products. To evaluate the efficacy of glucocorticoid sinus stents implanted 2 weeks after functional endoscopic sinus surgery(FESS) for the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps(CRSwNP). CRSwNP patients with similar bilateral lesions were randomly divided into two groups, with a stent group of 25 patients and a control group of 24 patients. Patients in the stent group had glucocorticoid sinus stents implanted into the bilateral ethmoid sinuses 2 weeks after FESS, while the control group underwent postoperative debridement only.
