Uterine torsion is defined as rotation of the uterus of more than 45° on its long axis. It is an unusual complication of pregnancy and for most obstetricians it probably represents a 'once-in-a-lifetime' diagnosis. Fetal mortality up to 12% and occasional maternal mortality are reported.

Cornual pregnancy constitutes an emergency while its diagnosis and management remain a challenge. Anatomical abnormalities in the uterus, such as fibroids in the cornual region, make the management even more difficult. Malignant melanoma is one of the most rapidly increasing cancers and, when it occurs during pregnancy, it can frequently metastasise to the placenta and the foetus. Earlier reports suggested a rapid progress of the disease during pregnancy with a poor prognosis; however, recent controlled studies found that stage for stage, the prognosis of melanoma during pregnancy is similar to that in a non-pregnant state. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment can avoid a tragic outcome.

Venous (maternal) and cord blood (neonatal) samples of Omani women who had a daily supplement of Centrum Materna multivitamin and multimineral tablet throughout pregnancy were investigated at late preterm (n=37) and at term (n=37) delivery for erythrocyte indices, micromineral, antioxidant, and lipid values. Hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (HCT), mean cell volume (MCV), red cell distribution width (RDW), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), ceruloplasmin, erythrocyte Cu-Zn superoxide dismutase (Cu-Zn SOD), cholesterol, apolipoprotein (apo) A-I and apo B were measured by appropriate analytical systems. Cu/zinc and Cu/ceruloplasmin ratios were calculated.

In a multicentre trial the efficacy of 250 µg of intramuscular 15(S)15 methyl PGF (Prostin 15M, Upjohn) was tested in controlling the postpartum hemorrhage following delivery at term. All patients included in this study did not respond to the conventional therapy of intravenous oxytocin infusion and methergin. Forty-eight patients were included in this analysis.
