Absract: PURPOSE: The several prior studies assessing gender identity in young autistic individuals mostly included a mix of child and adolescent participants, heavily relied on parent-reported measures, and yielded mixed findings. A single parent-reported item from the Child Behavior Checklist assessing "wish to be of the opposite sex" was employed in most of these studies. Only one prior study focused specifically on children, but that study employed parent-reported measures.

The present study was designed to examine autistic and non-autistic young adults' lived experience in psychosexual development and sex education and to solicit recommendations on how to improve sex education programs. Participants included 10 autistic young adults and 10 non-autistic young adults aged 18 to 24 years. The two groups were matched for sex and education level.

Purpose: The 10-item version of the Empathy Quotient (EQ-10) and the Systemising Quotient-Revised (SQ-R-10) were originally developed in the English-speaking population. However, little is known about the reliability of these measures. There is also extremely limited research translating or evaluating any translated version of these 10-item measures.

Congenital adrenal hyperplasia has been reported to manifest with white matter aberrations. However, many previous studies included only small samples, restricted their analyses to females, lacked a control group and/or did not correct for brain size. Here, we examined the largest sample to date, comprising 53 male and female participants with congenital adrenal hyperplasia, who were matched with 53 male and female controls in terms of sex, age, education, and verbal intelligence.

On basis of their unique chemical and photophysical properties, and excellent biological activities, quinoliziniums have been widely used in various research fields. Herein, modular synthetic strategies for efficient synthesis of novel fluorescent quinoliziniums by using one-pot and stepwise rhodium(III)-catalyzed C-H annulations were developed. In the one-pot synthesis, the reaction between 2-aryl-4-quinolones (1) and 1,2-diarylalkynes (2) proceeded in a chemo- and regioselective manner to give quinolinone-fused isoquinolines (3) and pentacyclic-fused pyranoquinoliziniums (4).

Soil salinization is a significant global issue that leads to land degradation and loss of ecological function. In coastal areas, salinization hampers vegetation growth, and forestation efforts can accelerate the recovery of ecological functions and enhance resilience to extreme climates. However, the salinity tolerance of tree species varies due to complex biological factors, and results between lab/greenhouse and field studies are often inconsistent.

Article Synopsis
  • Early exposure to androgens (male hormones) significantly influences differences in play behavior between genders and is highlighted in mammal studies, establishing a link to neurobehavioral sexual differentiation.
  • In humans, females with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) experience high prenatal androgen levels, leading to distinct play behaviors compared to control females, while males with CAH show no significant behavioral differences compared to control males.
  • The study’s findings underscore the role of prenatal androgen exposure in shaping behaviors, suggesting important implications for understanding sex-related behaviors, brain development, and issues of gender nonconformity.

Background: COVID-19 outbreaks in residential care homes for the elderly (RCHEs) and for persons with disability (RCHDs) have caused significant morbidity and mortality during 5th epidemic in Hong Kong. This article reviewed COVID-19 outbreaks situation and estimated the effectiveness of receiving at least two-dose of COVID-19 vaccine in preventing severe outcomes.

Methods: To estimate attack rates and vaccination coverage, documentation on COVID-19 infection and their vaccination records of residential care homes (RCH) residents reported between December 31, 2021 and May 31, 2022 were reviewed, and infected cases were follow-up for 4 weeks for severe outcomes or death.

Objective: This study investigated the effects of physical therapy, including exercise, manual therapy, and physical agent modality, on joints, muscle strength, and mobility of patients with hemophilia.

Methods: PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Science, and Scopus were searched from inception to September 10, 2022. Randomized controlled trials comparing pain, range of motion, and health of joints, as well as muscle strength and mobility (timed up and go test) between physical therapy and control groups were included.

The reaction of a series of electron-deficient isoindolium-based allenes with sulfhydryl compounds has been studied, leading to the formation of isoindolium-based vinyl sulfides. The vinyl sulfides generated could be readily converted into the corresponding indanones and amines upon heating at 30-70 °C with good yields up to 61 %. The thermal cleavage reaction of vinyl sulfides was further studied for developing temperature-sensitive systems.

The present study investigated the relation between autistic traits and gender minority stress and the relative importance of autistic traits and gender minority stress in predicting mental health outcomes in gender minority adults. An online survey was completed by 90 transgender women, 72 transgender men, 48 non-binary individuals assigned male at birth (AMAB), and 98 non-binary individuals assigned female at birth (AFAB). Autistic traits positively correlated with internalised transphobia in the non-binary groups.

Fluorogenic labeling has received considerable attention as a result of the high demand in chemical biology and synthetic biology applications. Herein, we develop a new strategy for fluorescent turn-on ligation targeting alkyne- and quinoline-linked peptides and proteins (λ of 515 nm and up to Φ of 0.20) using the [Cp*RhCl] catalyst.

Substantial average gender differences in childhood play behaviour and occupational interests have been well-documented. Recent research shows that childhood gender-related play behaviour longitudinally predicts gender-related occupational interests in adolescence (Kung, 2021). The first aim of the present study was to extend this recent finding by examining whether university students' recalled childhood gender-related play behaviour predicts their current gender-related occupational interests.

A series of quinolizinium-based fluorescent reagents were prepared by visible light-mediated gold-catalyzed -difunctionalization between quinolinium diazonium salts and electron-deficient alkyne-linked phenylethynyl trimethylsilanes. The electron-deficient alkynyl group of the quinolizinium-based fluorescent reagents underwent nucleophilic addition reaction with the sulfhydryl group on cysteine-containing peptides and proteins. The quinolizinium-based fluorescent reagents were found to function as highly selective reagents for the modification of cysteine-containing peptides and proteins with good to excellent conversions (up to 99%).

Low frequency electric fields were exposed to various water samples using platinum electrodes mounted near the water surface. Responses were monitored using a spectro-radiometer and a contact-angle goniometer. Treatment of DI (deionized), EZ (Exclusion Zone), and bulk water with certain electromagnetic frequencies resulted in a drop of radiance persisting for at least half an hour.

Background: Medication errors are a common problem in hospitals and a major driver of adverse patient outcomes. Barcode verification technology is a promising strategy to help ensure safe medication preparation practices.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were (i) to assess the effects of a barcode-assisted medication preparation and administration system regarding the rate of medication preparation errors and (ii) to compare the time spent on medication preparation tasks by medical staff.

There are significant gender differences in both play behavior and occupational interests. Play has been regarded as an important medium for development of skills and personal characteristics. Play may also influence subsequent preferences through social and cognitive processes involved in gender development.

Background: Autism is more prevalent in males than in females. Hypotheses related to the extreme male brain theory of autism suggest that heightened androgen exposure during early development contributes to autistic traits. Whilst prior research focused mostly on the prenatal period, the current study tests the influences of androgen exposure during both the prenatal and the early postnatal periods on autistic traits during childhood.
