In seasonally stratified marine environments, the dynamics of benthic-pelagic coupling plays a crucial role in shaping food web structures and fisheries production. We examined fish food web structures across three distinct shelf areas in the Southern Sea of Korea (SSK) during both stratified (summer) and mixed (spring) water conditions using stable isotopes of carbon (δC) and nitrogen (δN). In spring, fish communities exhibited a broader range of δC values compared with summer, indicating more diverse feeding strategies.

The burgeoning field of nanomedicine is exploring quantum dots for cancer theranostics. In recent years, chemically engineered copper sulfide (CuS) quantum dots (QDs) have emerged as a multifunctional platform for fluorescence-based sensors with prominent applications in imaging and chemodynamic therapy of tumor cells. The present study demonstrates the sustainable synthesis of nitrogen-embedded copper sulfide (N@CuS) quantum dots for the first time and unveils their potential application in in vitro and in vivo breast cancer management.

Optically active ultrabright imaging agents are shown to delineate tumor location with deep tissue visualization in pre noclinical tumor models. NanoGhosts (NGs) particles are reconstructed from the cell membrane and integrated with organic fluorophores to attain ultra-brightness for solid tumor imaging. Moreover, the integration of amphiphilic and lipophilic molecules reveals structural characteristics of NGs (≈70 nm), which also alter their brightness.

The C-F bond activation of perfluoronaphthalene by 5-SIDipp led to the formation of dicationic salts with two fluorides (3·2HF2 ) or heptafluorodiborate (3·2B2F7) as counter-anions. The anion exchange reaction of 3·2B2F7 with NBuPF afforded a highly luminescent 3·2PF6. The addition of cobaltocene in the reaction mixture of 5-SIDipp and perfluoronaphthalene led to a distinct Co(I) species.

Poly(lactide--glycolide) (PLGA) is a biocompatible and biodegradable copolymer that has gained high acceptance in biomedical applications. In the present study, PLGA ( = 13,900) was synthesized by ring-opening polymerization in the presence of a biocompatible zinc-proline initiator through a green route. Irinotecan (Ir) loaded with efficient PLGA core-lipid shell hybrid nanocarriers (lipomers, LPs) were formulated with 1,2-distearoyl--glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine and 1,2-distearoyl--glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine--[amino (polyethylene glycol)-2000] (DSPE-PEG-2000), using soya lecithin, by a nanoprecipitation method, and the fabricated LPs were designated as P-DSPE-Ir and P-DSPE-PEG-Ir, respectively.

This study investigated heavy metal accumulations in fish, water and sediment from three rivers around a major urban area in Bangladesh, namely the Rupsha, the Atai, and the Bhairab with a view to assessing the ecological and human health risks. Samples were collected from 10 stations over two seasons (summer and winter) and concentrations of 11 metals (As, Se, Pb, Be, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, V) were measured using ICP-MS. Heavy metals in water of these rivers were above the WHO higher thresholds.

Diverse mechanisms have been established to understand the chemoresistance of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but the contribution of non-coding RNAs is not surveyed well. Here, we aimed to explore the lncRNA-miRNA axis in Hepatitis C and B virus (HCV and HBV) infected HCC to investigate the molecular mechanism of chemoresistance and to identify a potential therapeutic target for HCC. A poly(d,l-lactide--glycolide) (PLGA) copolymer was synthesized using the ring-opening polymerization of d,l-lactide and glycolide monomers in the presence of zinc proline complex in bulk through the green route and was well characterized using attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared, H and C nuclear magnetic resonance, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight, etc. Furthermore, PLGA-conjugated biotin (PLGA-B) was synthesized using the synthesized PLGA and was employed to fabricate nanoparticles for irinotecan (Ir) delivery. The procedure involves subjecting the substrate to a mixture of hydrochloric acid, acetic acid, and acetic anhydride in an undivided electrochemical cell at a constant current, resulting in stereoselective conversion to the corresponding α-acetoxy-β-chloro derivative. The α-position can be readily substituted with a range of other groups, including alkyl, aryl, allyl, alkynyl, alkoxy, or azido functionalities.

Reactions of 5-SIDipp ⋅ BH (5-SIDipp=1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-imidazolin-2-ylidene) (1) with diphenyldiselenide provide access to 5-SIDipp-boryl mono- (5-SIDipp ⋅ BH SePh) (2) and bis-selenide (5-SIDipp ⋅ BH(SePh) ) (3). The facile cleavage of the B-Se bond makes 2 a neutral source of selenium nucleophiles in substitutions reactions with benzyl bromides, and provide access to the corresponding selenoethers. The direct transformations of one of the C(sp )-F bonds of C F N and C F CF to C-Se bonds have also been achieved by the use of 2 without employing transition-metal catalysts.
