Background: To investigate changes in the immunophenotypes of androgen receptor (AR), prostate-specific antigen (PSA), synaptophysin (Syn), chromogranin A (CgA), p53 and Ki-67 after neoadjuvant endocrine therapy (NET) for prostate cancer (PCa) and to analyze their clinical significance.
Methods: Paired paraffin samples were collected from 40 PCa patients before and after NET, and immunohistochemistry were used to detect AR, PSA, Syn, CgA, p53 and Ki-67 expression. Based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), Kaplan‒Meier survival curves were plotted for analysis of PSA and Ki-67 expression in relation to progression-free survival (PFS).

Acrolein (ACR) is a ubiquitous environmental pollutant and byproduct of lipid peroxidation that has been implicated in male infertility. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying ACR-induced toxicity in Sertoli cells remain unclear. Given its role in inducing oxidative stress, we examined whether ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of regulated cell death, could mediate ACR toxicity in Sertoli cells.

This study aimed to examine the function of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAF)-derived EVs (CAF-EVs) during lymph node metastasis in OCSCC and the mechanisms.
Methods: CAF were isolated from OCSCC tissues of patients, and CAF-EVs were extracted and identified.
Prostate cancer (PCa) is a prevalent malignancy among men, with a majority of patients presenting with distant metastases at the time of initial diagnosis. These patients are at a heightened risk of developing more aggressive castration‑resistant PCa following androgen deprivation therapy, which poses a greater challenge for treatment. Notably, the inhibition of tumor angiogenesis should not be considered an ineffective treatment strategy.

Cyclophosphamide (CYP) is extensively used in tumor therapy, but its clinical application is limited by its toxic effects on the bladder. Since CYP-induced cystitis is believed to be mediated by acrolein (ACR), a product of lipid peroxidation that triggers ferroptosis, we hypothesized that ferroptosis might be an essential molecular mechanism underlying CYP-induced cystitis. The purpose of this study was to test this hypothesis.

Male infertility is a global concern, with a noticeable increase in the decline of spermatogenesis and sperm quality. However, there are limited clinically effective treatments available. This study aimed to investigate the potential effectiveness of puerarin in treating male infertility, which leads to gonadal changes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTNF receptor-associated factors (TRAFs) are signaling adaptor proteins that play a crucial role in regulating cellular receptors' signaling transduction to downstream pathways and exert multifaceted roles in regulating signaling pathways, cell survival, and carcinogenesis. The 13-cis-retinoic acid (RA), an active metabolite of vitamin A, exhibits anti-cancer properties, but the development of retinoic acid resistance poses a challenge in clinical application. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between TRAFs and retinoic acid sensitivity in various cancers.

Methods: In the present study, 1,438 newborns of the Li minority were collected from January 2020 to April 2021. The genotypes of thalassemia were detected by fluorescence PCR and verified by flow-through hybridization PCR analyses.
Neuroblastoma (NB) is a pediatric malignancy that arises in the peripheral nervous system, and the prognosis in the high-risk group remains dismal, despite the breakthroughs in multidisciplinary treatments. The oral treatment with 13-cis-retinoic acid (RA) after high-dose chemotherapy and stem cell transplant has been proven to reduce the incidence of tumor relapse in children with high-risk neuroblastoma. However, many patients still have tumors relapsed following retinoid therapy, highlighting the need for the identification of resistant factors and the development of more effective treatments.

Methods: This is a retrospective study. Patients (n=170) who were hospitalized in the Department of Neurology of the First People's Hospital of Jiangxia District from June 2019 to January 2021 with cerebral infarction or transient ischemic attack were included in the study.
Background: We analyzed the 2019 external quality assessment (EQA) results to evaluate the analytical performance of maternal serum prenatal screening for Down Syndrome (DS) in the first trimester in China.
Methods: In each round, five lyophilized EQA samples with detailed clinical information were distributed to participants and used to test the concentration of human chorionic gonadotropin free beta subunits (free β-HCG) and pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A) to calculate the risk value of DS. The robust coefficient of variability (CV) was calculated or test results for free β-HCG and PAPP-A using analytes and major measurement platforms.
Background: Customer satisfaction is one of quality indicators which can be used to identify quality defects in the total process and remind clinical laboratories to take measures to improve the process. This study mainly reviewed and analyzed the general situation through a customer satisfaction survey in clinical laboratories in China and described the overall customer satisfaction of outpatients and inpatients.
Methods: Surveys in this study could be divided into two stages.
A borehole deformation sensor for long-term stress monitoring in coal mine rock based on optical fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) is presented. The sensor converts borehole deformation into optical fiber strain by using four rings. For each ring, two FBGs are bonded with the ring to measure the borehole deformation, and a reference FBG free from mechanical load is introduced to remove the temperature effect.

Source camera identification, which aims at identifying the source camera of an image, has attracted a wide range of attention in the field of digital image forensics recently. Many approaches to source camera identification have been proposed by extracting some image features. However, most of these methods only focused on extracting features from the single artifact of the camera left on the captured images and ignored other artifacts that may help improve final accuracy.

Background: This study observed and analyzed the internal quality control (IQC) of cystatin C (CysC) so that we can have overall knowledge about imprecision levels in Chinese medical laboratories.
Methods: Using the software developed by the National Center for Clinical Laboratories (NCCL), we can get the IQC information of CysC from 2014 to 2017.
