Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates autonomic dysfunction in early Parkinson's disease (PD) patients who are not on medication and do not experience orthostatic hypotension (OH), focusing on the effects of the Valsalva maneuver (VM).
  • Researchers analyzed data from 61 drug-naïve PD patients and 20 controls, assessing various VM parameters like changes in systolic blood pressure and heart rate to identify differences in autonomic function.
  • The findings indicate that early PD patients have significantly lower sympathetic function, as indicated by decreased blood pressure changes, suggesting that sympathetic dysfunction might be an early sign of autonomic issues in PD.

In a previous study, we discovered that the ethanolic extract of sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) fruits exhibited anti-osteoporosis effects both in vitro and in vivo. Through bioassay-guided fractionation, we identified the hexane fraction (HRH) as the active fraction, which was further fractionated using preparative HPLC. Among the resulting six fractions, HRHF4 showed significant activity.

Conventional antibiotic-based treatment of bacterial infections remains one of the most difficult challenges in medicine because of the threat of multidrug resistance caused by indiscriminate abuse. To solve these problems, it is essential to develop an effective antibacterial agent that can be used at a small dose while minimizing the occurrence of multiple resistance. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), which are hyper-porous hybrid materials containing metal ions linked by organic ligands, have recently attracted attention because of their strong antibacterial activity through metal-ion release, unlike conventional antibiotics.
