Aims: We aimed to assess the difficulty in taking solid oral dosage forms (SODFs) among older people with dysphagia and clarify the relationship between difficulty in swallowing SODFs and swallowing function.
Methods And Results: Outpatients from a dysphagia clinic aged ≥65 years were asked yes-or-no questions about the applicability of eight items regarding difficulty in taking SODFs. Additionally, a videofluorographic swallowing study (VFSS) was performed to assess their swallowing function.

Purpose: To demonstrate effectiveness of our present radiological report check flowchart enabling physicians to respond to significant unexpected findings (SUFs), by comparing the response periods from the examination date to the action date on untreated SUFs between the previous and present versions of our flowchart.
Methods: In the flowchart's previous version used February-October 2019, SUFs, which were notified by email, were audited every month. The physician received a phone call and was asked to act on the untreated SUF.
Background: This study evaluated the efficacy of montelukast in reducing seasonal allergic rhinitis symptoms in Japanese children with Japanese cedar (JC) pollinosis induced in an artificial exposure chamber (OHIO Chamber).
Methods: Pediatric patients aged 10 to 15 years sensitive to JC pollen entered a randomized, double-blind, single-site, crossover study. After confirmation of an allergic response to a JC pollen exposure for 3 hours in the OHIO Chamber during the screening period, subjects received either montelukast 5 mg chewable tablets or placebo for a 7-day treatment period, followed by a 3-hour pollen exposure in the chamber.

Osteopontin is a substrate for a number of extracellular proteases, including thrombin and the metalloproteases MMP-3 and MMP-7, which cleave osteopontin at sites close to or within the mapped integrin binding sites. Using affinity chromatography and cell adhesion assays, we now identify the integrin alphavbeta6 as an additional osteopontin receptor.

To date, there have been no documented histological reports on pasteurized bone grafts, apart from short-term histological results.
Case Report: We treated a 27-year-old male with a periosteal chondrosarcoma of the tibia by wide excision and reimplantation of the large pasteurized bone.
Background: Periacetabular reconstruction after malignant bone tumor resection to preserve limb function is extremely challenging. The optimal reconstruction method has not yet received consensus and the functional outcomes still remain unsatisfactory.
Case Report: A thirteen-year-old girl who was suffering from acetabular osteosarcoma was treated with wide excision of the tumor, followed by periacetabular reconstruction with an autogenous extracorporeal irradiated osteoarticular graft combined with a vascularized fibula graft.
Synchronous occurrence of medullary and papillary carcinoma of the thyroid gland is very rare. We describe two cases of synchronous medullary and papillary carcinoma of the thyroid. In both cases, medullary carcinoma and papillary carcinoma were separate in the thyroid but mixed in some of the lymph node metastases.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFluorescence properties of fluorescein-based probes are shown to be finely controlled by the rate of photoinduced electron transfer from the benzoic acid moiety (electron donor) to the singlet excited state of the xanthene moiety (electron acceptor fluorophore). The occurrence of photoinduced electron transfer is clearly evidenced by transient absorption spectra showing bands due to the radical cation of the electron donor moiety and the radical anion of the xanthene moiety, observed in laser flash photolysis experiments. The photoinduced electron transfer rates and the rates of back electron transfer follow the Marcus parabolic dependence of electron transfer rate on the driving force.
