The ability of neurons to sense and respond to damage is crucial for maintaining homeostasis and facilitating nervous system repair. For some cell types, notably dorsal root ganglia (DRG) and retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), extensive profiling has uncovered a significant transcriptional response to axon injury, which influences survival and regenerative outcomes. In contrast, the injury responses of most supraspinal cell types, which display limited regeneration after spinal damage, remain mostly unknown.

Background: Tacrolimus, a topical calcineurin inhibitor (TCI) with immunomodulatory effects, is considered a viable treatment option for vitiligo. A consensus building exercise was undertaken to determine the role and clinical utility of topical tacrolimus in the management of vitiligo using input from experts in the field of dermatology.

Methods: Seventeen experts collaborated to create consensus statements using a modified Delphi methodology.

We describe a rare case of cutaneous phaeohyphomycosis by Veronaea botryosa in a renal transplant recipient from India. The patient presented with a nodule on the dorsum of right hand which resolved completely after 6 months of voriconazole therapy. The identity of the fungus was confirmed by sequencing internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of rDNA.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic inducible urticaria (CIndU) lasts longer than 6 weeks and is triggered by specific factors, but research on its severity and treatment is limited compared to chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU).
  • A study reviewed data from 222 CIndU patients and 226 CSU controls, finding that both groups were similar in age and gender, but CIndU patients had significantly lower CRP levels and a poorer quality of life score (CU-QOL).
  • CIndU patients required more frequent antihistamine adjustments (80% vs. 52% in CSU) and took longer to achieve remission, averaging 60 days compared to 27.77 days for CSU patients.

  • Dermatitis artefacta (DA) is a rare skin disorder primarily seen in late adolescents and young adults, often challenging to diagnose.
  • A 17-year-old girl experienced unexplained linear skin lesions for 11 months, resulting in significant school absences; her examination revealed characteristics typical of DA.
  • Treatment involved N-acetyl cysteine and psychiatric evaluation, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive approach to manage DA due to its links with psychological issues.

Background Cold urticaria (ColdU) is classified as a subtype of chronic inducible urticaria characterised by recurring pruritic wheals and/or angioedema upon exposure to cold stimuli. However, very limited data is available on ColdU specifically among Indians. Objectives The aim of this study was to describe the clinico-epidemiological characteristics and treatment response in North Indian patients diagnosed with ColdU.

The objective of this investigation is to learn more about the structural, electrical, spectroscopic, and physiochemical characteristics of biologically active cyano-4'-hydroxybiphenyl (CHBP). The title molecule's optimized conformational analysis was computed using the DFT/B3LYP/6-311++G (d, p) level of theory. The observed wavenumbers were compared with theoretical FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra.

Article Synopsis
  • The study addresses the lack of long-term data on chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) in general populations, particularly in the Indian subcontinent.
  • It aims to analyze the clinical profile of CSU patients, their comorbidities, and what factors influence their response to levocetirizine, a common antihistamine treatment.
  • Findings from 1,104 CSU cases indicate a significant prevalence of thyroid dysfunction, atopy, vitamin D deficiency, and high serum IgE levels, with serum IgE and D-dimer levels being key markers for determining the need for increased levocetirizine dosage.

  • Non-cultured epidermal suspension (NCES) is a popular surgical treatment for stable vitiligo, and the method of delivering the suspension significantly affects the results.
  • A study compared two delivery methods: conventional suspension delivery after manual dermabrasion (CSMD) and tattooing pen-assisted suspension delivery (TPSD) in 36 patients, examining repigmentation success over 24 weeks.
  • Results showed that CSMD achieved better repigmentation in 86.1% of cases compared to 61.1% for TPSD, and while CSMD had more complications, TPSD had no perilesional halo effects, suggesting room for improvement in tattooing pen techniques.

Retinoblastoma (RB) is a childhood retinal neoplasm and commonly treated with cytotoxic chemotherapeutic agents. However, these therapeutic approaches often lead to diverse adverse effects. A precise molecular therapy will alleviate these side effects and offer better treatment outcomes.

The ability of neurons to sense and respond to damage is fundamental to homeostasis and nervous system repair. For some cell types, notably dorsal root ganglia (DRG) and retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), extensive profiling has revealed a large transcriptional response to axon injury that determines survival and regenerative outcomes. In contrast, the injury response of most supraspinal cell types, whose limited regeneration constrains recovery from spinal injury, is mostly unknown.

Electronic health records (EHR) have revolutionized healthcare by providing efficient access to patient information, but their implementation poses various challenges. This paper examines the ethical and legal issues surrounding EHR adoption, particularly focusing on the healthcare landscape in India. Ethical considerations, including patient autonomy, confidentiality, beneficence, and justice, must guide EHR implementation to protect patient rights and privacy.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine if the COVID-19 pandemic impacted different types of preterm birth rates in Alberta, Canada.

Methods: A population-based, retrospective, cohort study was conducted from March 15, 2015 to December 31, 2020 using provincial data. The primary exposure was the COVID-19 lockdown period, and the primary outcome was the incidence of preterm birth (<37 weeks gestational age).

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the roles of complement fraction 5a (C5a), interleukin-9 (IL-9), and apolipoprotein A-IV (apo A-IV) as potential biomarkers for assessing disease severity and response to antihistamines in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU).
  • Findings indicate that C5a levels are significantly higher in CSU patients compared to controls, and IL-9 levels are notably elevated in antihistamine responders versus nonresponders, suggesting their potential as biomarkers.
  • Additionally, higher baseline levels of IL-9 may predict better antihistamine response, while increased serum IgE and anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO

Background: Narrowband ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) phototherapy promotes stability and repigmentation in vitiligo. No studies have compared targeted NB-UVB with whole-body NB-UVB in treatment of acral vitiligo.

Objectives: This randomized split-body study compared whole-body NB-UVB with targeted NB-UVB in inducing stability and repigmentation in acral vitiligo.
