In the present work, new Co(II) complexes were synthesized from mesogenic aromatic amino acids based Schiff base ligands, HL [Methyl 2-((2-hydroxy-4-(tetradecyloxy)benzylidene)amino)-3-phenylpropanoate] and HL [Methyl 2-((2-hydroxy-4-(tetradecyloxy)benzylidene)amino)-3-(1H-indol-2-yl)propanoate]. The compounds were thoroughly characterised using different elemental, thermogravimetric and spectroscopic studies. The in-vitro antileishmanial efficacy of the compounds against Leishmania donovani was evaluated by MTT assay and the antioxidant activity was performed by Mensor's method.

In this work, a one-pot multicomponent synthesis of the ibuprofen-loaded FeO nanoparticles-supported zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (Ibu-ZIF-8/FeO NPs) nanohybrid was carried out. The ZIF-8/FeO NPs nanohybrid was used as a drug carrier for the release of ibuprofen in a PBS solution. The structure and morphology of the synthesized materials were investigated by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) analysis, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis, UV-visible absorption studies, FTIR spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).

Clinical and experimental reports suggest the prevalence of disturbed gut microflora in PD subjects, with an abundance of especially Gram-negative bacteria. The endotoxin lipopolysaccharide (LPS) released from the outer cell layer of these bacteria interacts with the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) present on the macrophages and it stimulates the downstream inflammatory cascade in both the gut and brain.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) can adversely affect extra-pulmonary organs, such as the liver, heart and gastrointestinal tract apart from lungs. Although studies are showing that serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase and serum glutamic-pyruvic transaminase are mildly elevated along with serum bilirubin in adult patients with mild to severe cases of COVID-19 disease, data are limited regarding liver injury in children infected with COVID virus. We report the case of a 9-year-old female patient who developed signs and symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection due to COVID-19 virus infection and subsequently developed fatty liver disease on follow-up.

HAdV has been seen to behave as a proinflammatory virus that can trigger the release of high levels of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines in children.
