We report a case of infection in a Samar cobra () imported from the Philippines, belonging to a zoological collection in the southern United States. Under a poor post-surgical prognosis, the snake was euthanized, and at necropsy plerocercoids of a Diphyllobotriidea were found in its subcutaneous tissues and musculature. Molecular and phylogenetic analyses of the complete cytochrome oxidase c subunit I () gene of the mitochondrial DNA confirmed that the isolate belonged to the genus and was closely related to isolates from Asian countries (bootstrap support = 99.

We used histological and genomic methods to investigate the sores from 20 adult moose on the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska. We paired this with thermal imagery and molt scoring of adult moose to further describe sore formation and understand its timing.

Brugia is a vector-transmitted nematode that is commonly known for its zoonotic significance of causing lymphatic filariasis in Asia and Oceanic regions of the world. In addition to public health concerns, Brugia species have been known to infect domestic animals, including dogs and cats. However, information is scarce regarding genus Brugia in North America, and rare infections have been noted in domestic cats, humans, and other wild mammals.

Background: Breast cancer is the most common cause of death, due to malignant neoplasms in women worldwide. The nature of the symptoms associated with breast cancer depends on the stage of the disease. In this case, any cancerous changes in the initial phase of the disease can only be detected during imaging tests.

is a globally distributed genus of lungworms of domestic and wild ungulates. adults inhabit the bronchi, frequently causing subclinical and clinical disease, and that impacts animal health and production. North American bison () and cattle () share various parasitic nematode species, particularly in areas where co-grazing occurs.

The emergence of zoonotic Onchocerca lupi in North America and reports of cervid-associated zoonotic onchocerciasis by Onchocerca jakutensis highlight the need for increased entomological surveillance. In addition, there is mounting evidence that Onchocerca diversity in North America is far greater than previously thought, currently regarded as Onchocerca cervipedis species complex.

In this study, a short-term modification by low-temperature oxygen plasma is proposed as an example and a method for shaping the topography and surface energy of the outer amorphous carbon coating, produced via the Radio-Frequency Chemical Vapour Deposition (RFCVD) method on NiTi alloy oxidized under glow-discharge conditions. This treatment alters the chemical composition of the outer zone of the surface layer.

The special connector comprised of a steel plate and welded bolts is attached to beam's top flange by adhesive bonding and with a preset torque of nuts. The study's purpose is to check ductility, safety, reliability and robustness of the shear connection before its implementation in the first Polish composite bridge.

Objectives: To identify demographic and clinical factors associated with HRQoL in adolescents and young adults with CF.
Methods: The sample comprised adolescent and young adult patients with CF.
Purpose: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) evaluations are being increasingly used for clinical assessment of cancer treatment outcomes. For a patient, not only is life expectancy important, but also a general sense of sustained global health. Intuitively, the more disfiguring the treatment, the more pronounced could be the deterioration in the QoL.

Herein, we review the literature on the theory of HRQoL in relation to oncological diseases.
Material And Methods: A literature search of English-language publications that included an analysis of the conceptual models of HRQoL was performed using PubMed.
Melatonin receptors (MT1 and MT2) were shown to regulate proper functioning of reproductive system, especially in seasonally breeding animals. European bison is a unique endangered seasonal breeder and knowledge of the molecular mechanisms of its reproduction is crucial for the survival of the species. The aim of this study was to assess gene expression, protein synthesis and immunohistochemical localization of MT1 and MT2 receptors in testicular and spermatic cord vessels tissues collected in pre-rut (June) and post-rut (December) seasons from adult male European bisons in Bialowieza National Park.

This study was designed to explore one specific aspect of a proposed humoral phototransduction mechanism, namely that carbon monoxide (CO) levels increase in retinal venous blood in response to bright light. Eleven mature male pigs approximately six months of age were kept for 7days in darkness and fasted for 12h prior to surgery.

Introduction: Total amputation, as a treatment for advanced penile cancer, significantly debilitates the patient's quality of life and sexual function. The aim of the study was to assess the quality of life in patients who had undergone total penectomy.
Material And Methods: The questionnaires EORTC QLQ C-30, SES, CMNI, and a modified IIEF-15 questionnaire, were sent to 11 patients.
Aim Of The Study: The crisis associated with cancer may contribute to the development of anxiety and depressive disorders. Contemporary psycho-oncology focuses on the psychological determinants of the cancer patients functioning to find which disease-coping strategies help the healing process, facilitate the establishment of a good therapeutic relationship and the process of adapting to difficult situations. Aim of the study was assess the psychological functioning of patients with cancer of reproductive organs in the cancer-treating process.
