Deep brain stimulation (DBS), a proven treatment for movement disorders, also holds promise for the treatment of psychiatric and cognitive conditions. However, for DBS to be clinically effective, it may require DBS technology that can alter or trigger stimulation in response to changes in biomarkers sensed from the patient's brain. A growing body of evidence suggests that such adaptive DBS is feasible, it might achieve clinical effects that are not possible with standard continuous DBS and that some of the best biomarkers are signals from the cerebral cortex.

Objective: An alarming proportion (>30%) of patients affected by SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) continue to experience neurological symptoms, including headache, dizziness, smell and/or taste abnormalities, and impaired consciousness (brain fog), after recovery from the acute infection. Alterations in bladder function with aging are very common and are very likely to represent an increasing healthcare problem in the years to come with the general aging of the population. In this review the authors describe the prevalence of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and comment upon potential mechanisms which may be responsible for the increasing prevalence of lower LUTS with increasing age, based on laboratory studies. It is clear that there is a complex interplay between the various components of the neural innervation structure of the bladder in leading to changes with age, which are likely to underpin the LUTS which are seen in the aging bladder.

Based on a 15-year old hypothesis, it is believed that an adequate ingestion of folate vitamins decreases, whereas a nutritional depletion of folate increases the risk of colorectal cancer. The present article reviews the efforts to provide biochemical and epidemiological evidence for folate as a chemopreventive agent against colorectal carcinogenesis. Lymphocyte transformation tests were performed on peripheral blood taken from individuals with a history of contact dermatitis who also presented with a positive patch test to nickel sulphate, and from individuals with no history of contact dermatitis. The adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a severe lung condition characterized by an acute lung injury leading to a massive intra-alveolar fibrosis with rapid lung failure. ARDS intra-alveolar fibrosis results from the migration of mesenchymal cells (mainly smooth muscle cells [SMC]) into the alveoli through alveolar epithelial basement membrane gaps resulting from the injury. SMC migration is followed by their replication and production of extracellular matrix, which leads to fibrosis.
