Background: Standard multidrug therapy for leprosy may be associated with severe side effects, which add to the stigma and discrimination that affect persons with the disease. In addition, the threat posed by drug-resistant leprosy shows the need for alternative drug combinations and shorter, safer regimens of multidrug therapy.

Methods: In this open-label, proof-of-concept study conducted in Brazil, we assigned patients with previously untreated multibacillary leprosy to receive bedaquiline monotherapy for 8 weeks.

Aims: Congenital athymia is an ultra-rare pediatric condition characterized by the lack of thymus in utero and the naïve T cells critical for infection defense and immune regulation. Patients with congenital athymia receive supportive care to minimize and treat infections, autoimmune phenomena, and autologous graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) manifestations, but historically, die within the first 3 years of life with supportive care only. We estimated the healthcare resource utilization and economic burden of supportive care over patients' first 3 years of life in the United States.

Introduction: Characterize the burden of illness in pediatric patients with congen̄ital athymia who were receiving supportive care.

Methods: This cross-sectional study of adult caregivers of patients with congenital athymia used both a quantitative survey and qualitative interviews. Caregivers of patients currently receiving supportive care responded to questions about the past 12 months and completed the parent proxy version of the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory Generic instrument (PedsQL) for patients aged 2-4 years.

Congenital athymia is an ultra-rare disease characterized by the absence of a functioning thymus. It is associated with several genetic and syndromic disorders including FOXN1 deficiency, 22q11.2 deletion, CHARGE Syndrome (Coloboma, Heart defects, Atresia of the nasal choanae, Retardation of growth and development, Genitourinary anomalies, and Ear anomalies), and Complete DiGeorge Syndrome.

Objective: To identify common practices of noninvasive ventilation (NIV) use among ALS specialists and how they follow respiratory status in their patients.

Methods: A 25-item questionnaire on NIV indications/initiation was sent via SurveyMonkey® to ALS specialists identified through membership in NEALS (114 sites in the US) and ENCALS (39 sites in Europe). Descriptive statistics and Cochran-Mantel-Haenszel test for general association were performed.

Importance: The prognostic value of slow vital capacity (SVC) in relation to respiratory function decline and disease progression in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is not well understood.

Objective: To investigate the rate of decline in percentage predicted SVC and its association with respiratory-related clinical events and mortality in patients with ALS.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This retrospective study included 893 placebo-treated patients from 2 large clinical trials (EMPOWER and BENEFIT-ALS, conducted from March 28, 2011, to November 1, 2012, and from October 23, 2012, to March 21, 2014, respectively) and an ALS trial database (PRO-ACT, containing studies completed between 1990 and 2010) to investigate the rate of decline in SVC.

Background: Routine prophylaxis with replacement factor VIII (FVIII) - the standard of care for severe hemophilia A - often requires frequent intravenous infusions (three or four times weekly). An FVIII molecule with an extended half-life could reduce infusion frequency. The A-LONG study established the safety, efficacy and prolonged pharmacokinetics of recombinant FVIII Fc fusion protein (rFVIIIFc) in previously treated adolescents and adults with severe hemophilia A.

Background: Cure of the metabolic defect in primary hyperoxaluria type 1 (PH1) is possible with liver transplantation (LTx). Preemptive LTx (PLTx) was promoted to prevent chronic kidney disease due to nephrocalcinosis and urolithiasis. However, timing of this procedure is difficult in view of the heterogeneity of PH1 and effective conservative treatment.

Aim: This feasibility study explores relative myocardial perfusion characterization with an investigational T2/T2 contrast agent.

Methods: Dysprosium-DTPA bis (methylamide) was administered peripherally in six patients with thallium defects. Rest and stress multi-section, gated, T2-weighted images were acquired with a 1.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the dependence of contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) on the dose and rate of sprodiamide injection in magnetic resonance relative cerebral blood volume (rCBV) imaging. rCBV maps for 35 normal volunteers were constructed from dynamic MR image sets acquired with echo-planar spin-echo imaging after intravenous injection of sprodiamide. Doses of .
