A high throughput screen identified N-aroylpyrazoline 1 as a selective inhibitor of the V600E mutant of B-Raf kinase. Parallel synthesis of acyl, aroyl, and sulfonyl derivatives led to the identification of several potent inhibitors in both enzymatic and cellular (pERK) assays such as compound 42.

It has also been reported as a marker for occult myeloproliferative disorder (MPD) in patients with splanchnic venous thrombosis. Limited data are available regarding the prevalence of the JAK2(V617F) mutation in patients with thrombosis outside the splanchnic region.

We report a case of persistent urogenital sinus with hydrocolpos and associated renal anomalies diagnosed prenatally at 30 weeks' gestation. The prenatal findings were confirmed on postnatal ultrasonography and genitogram with voiding urethrogram. The imaging features and a review of the literature are discussed.

Purpose: Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are multifunctional host defense molecules. Human beta-defensin 9 (HBD9) has previously been shown to be downregulated during ocular surface (OS) infection or inflammation. Here, the authors aimed to study localization of HBD9 protein in different OS regions and to determine the role of Toll-like receptors (TLRs), nucleotide oligomerization domain (NOD)-like receptors, and proinflammatory cytokines in HBD9 expression.

SUMMARY: The study assessed whether overweight is associated with better bone densities in healthy youth. It was observed that overweight individuals had better BMDs at the hip but not at other sites after controlling for the bone area. Lean body mass was an important determinant of BMDs in men, but both lean and fat mass were important for BMDs in women.

This study examined the composition of weight gain in severely undernourished children who underwent nutrition rehabilitation in a hospital from India. Body composition of 80 severely malnourished children (age 6-60 months) was assessed using skin-fold thickness measurements on admission and after 1 month of supplementary feeding.

Since the quantification of regional fat distribution is important for evaluating health risks, the regional body composition was assessed in relation to anthropometric indices and reproductive events.
Methods: The body composition of 278 women was assessed using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry.
Objective: To understand the chemotherapy response program in ovarian cancer cells at deep transcript sequencing levels.
Methods: Two next-generation sequencing technologies--MPSS (massively parallel signature sequencing) and SBS (sequencing by synthesis)--were used to sequence the transcripts of IGROV1 and IGROV1-CP cells, and to sequence the transcripts of a highly chemotherapy responsive and a highly chemotherapy resistant ovarian cancer tissue.
Results: We identified 3422 signatures (2957 genes) that are significantly different between IGROV1 and IGROV1-CP cells (P<0.
We assessed the clinical manifestations in upper and lower limb deep venous thrombosis patients from India and difference in etiological factors. Fifty-three patients with primary upper extremity deep vein thrombosis (UEDVT; males 30, females 23) and 236 patients with lower limb deep vein thrombosis (LLDVT; males 157, females 79) were included in this study. The thrombophilia markers studied were protein C (PC), protein S (PS), antithrombin (AT) III, and factor V Leiden (FVL) mutation.

We present a case report of a partial mole diagnosed at 18 weeks of gestation in a septate uterus with molar placenta in one horn and a dead fetus in the other.

Accurate classification of instances depends on identification and removal of redundant features. Classification of data having high dimensionality is usually performed in conjunction with an appropriate feature selection method. Feature selection enables identification of the most informative feature subset from the enormously vast search space that can accurately classify the given data.

It has distinct imaging findings on prenatal sonography (US) and ancillary findings on both pre- and postnatal examinations may help classify individual cases into one of four subtypes. We report the US findings in a case of SRPS type IV (Beemer-Langer dysplasia) in a male fetus with multiple congenital anomalies, including cystic hygroma.

Building accurate quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR) is important in drug design, environmental modeling, toxicology, and chemical property prediction. QSAR methods can be utilized to solve mainly two types of problems viz., pattern recognition, (or classification) where output is discrete (i.

Two optimization techniques--(1) artificial neural network (ANN) coupled with genetic algorithm (GA) and (2) response surface methodology (RSM)--were used for media optimization in order to enhance the biosurfactant yield by Rhodococcus erythropolis MTCC 2794. ANN and RSM models were developed, incorporating the quantity of four medium components (sucrose, yeast extract, meat peptone, and toluene) as independent input variables and biosurfactant yield [calculated in terms of percent emulsification index (% EI(24))] as output variable.

Recently we described a unique anatomical structure at the limbus, termed the Limbal Epithelial Crypt (LEC) that has features of a putative stem cell niche. In this study we examined infant limbus tissue (donor age 4 months) for evidence of LEC and performed immunohistological comparison between infant limbus and adult LEC.

Bone changes during lactation in women consuming low dietary calcium are not sufficiently studied. The present longitudinal study examined the BMD changes during lactation in undernourished women and the relationship of bone changes to the nutritional status.
