Background: The sparsity of established tools for the grading of limbal stem cell deficiency hinder objective assessments of the clinical outcome of cultivated limbal epithelial cell transplantation. To advance towards the development of standards for the comparison of the outcomes of these bio-surgical protocols we have now applied a battery of recognized objective and patient-declared subjective outcome criteria to the autologous modality of cultivated limbal epithelial cell transplantation.

Methods: The prospective study involved ten patients (M/F = 9/1; mean age = 42.

Background: The emerging evidence for the asymptomatic carriers of SARS-CoV-2 infection emphasized the critical need for universal screening of pregnant women.

Objectives: This study aimed to present the prevalence of overall and asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection rates in pregnant women admitted to the hospital, and assess the diagnostic accuracy of maternal symptoms and lung ultrasound (LUS) findings in detecting the infection.

Patients And Methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted at a single tertiary center in Istanbul, Turkey, for a month period starting from 27 April 2020.

This study aimed to determine the prevalence of keel bone deviations and feather damage of laying hens in two different free-range housing systems under commercial conditions. Both of the free-range systems had an indoor barn and an outdoor range area. The floor of the indoor barn consisted of litter and either perches (litter and perch, LP) or slats (litter and slats, LS).

Cardiac amyloidosis (CA) is a progressive infiltrative cardiomyopathy. Amyloid fibrils in the form of misfolded endogenous proteins accumulate in the heart, as well as the kidneys, liver, and gastrointestinal tract. The most common forms of CA are transthyretin (TTR) and immunoglobulin light chain amyloidosis (AL).

Heart failure (HF) is common and associated with a poor prognosis, despite advances in treatment. Over the last decade cardiovascular outcome trials with sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus have demonstrated beneficial effects for three SGLT2 inhibitors (empagliflozin, canagliflozin and dapagliflozin) in reducing hospitalisations for HF. More recently, dapagliflozin reduced the risk of worsening HF or death from cardiovascular causes in patients with chronic HF with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction, with or without type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Background: This study aims to use laser flare photometry to evaluate flare changes in patients following corneal damage from a metallic foreign body (FB).

Methods: Foreign body injured eyes and the healthy fellow eyes of 54 consecutive patients were studied in this comparative, observational, cross-sectional study. Flare levels were analyzed according to demographics, history of previous exposures, foreign body location, and foreign body penetration into the injured cornea.

Background: Dystonia is a common hyperkinetic movement disorder in children; however, making an early and definitive diagnosis of dystonia can sometimes be challenging for clinicians.

Case: Herein, we report a case of a 16 years-old girl presenting with laryngeal dystonia due to compound heterozygosity of a known pathogenic and a novel variant in the ATM gene. Serum alpha-fetoprotein level was elevated.

Purpose: An elevation in blood pressure (BP) during exercise is the normal physiological response, however an abnormally exaggerated rise in BP, in terms of hypertensive response to exercise (HRE), is seen as a prognostic factor for end-organ damage and mortality. HRE is more common in hypertensive (HT) patients and data are lacking on the effect of antihypertensive medication on HRE. In this study, we evaluated patients who underwent treadmill exercise testing (TET) to reveal the effect of antihypertensive medication on HRE.

Purpose: This study aims to compare the neurocognitive outcome in term infants who were treated using phenobarbital (PB) and levetiracetam (LEV) monotherapy for neonatal clinical seizures.

Methods: Term infants who were treated using PB or LEV monotherapy as the first-line anti-epileptic treatment for neonatal clinical seizures and followed-up in a pediatric neurology outpatient clinic were enrolled in this study. Neurodevelopmental outcome assessments were carried out using the Bayley Scales of Infant Development, third edition (BSID-III), including cognitive, receptive language, expressive language, fine motor and gross motor subscales.

The synthesis of new N-(5-substituted-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)-2-[(5-(substituted amino)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)thio]acetamide derivatives and investigation of their anticancer activities were the aims of this work. All the new compounds' structures were elucidated by elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and MS spectral data. Anticancer activity studies of the compounds were evaluated against MCF-7 and A549 tumor cell lines.

In this study, novel dithiocarbamate-sulfonamide derivatives (3a-3k) were synthesized to investigate their inhibitory activity on purified human carbonic anhydrase (hCA) I and II. The IC and K values of the compounds were calculated to compare their inhibition profiles on hCA I and II isoenzymes. Acetazolamide was used as the standard inhibitor in the enzyme inhibition assay.

The swine industry is often forced to euthanize pigs in the first few weeks of life due to injuries, hernias, or unthriftiness. The majority of pigs are euthanized using carbon dioxide (CO) gas asphyxiation but concerns as to the humaneness of CO are increasing. This study compared the euthanasia of weaned pigs using NO (NO; = 9) or CO ( = 9), at 50% and 25% min exchange rate, respectively.

Internal hernia through the foramen of Winslow is a very rare condition, especially in children. Here we report a 16-month-old girl who presented with obstructive jaundice and elevation of pancreatic enzymes and was ultimately diagnosed with internal hernia and malrotation by radiologic investigation and open approach surgery. To the best of our knowledge, obstructive jaundice with pancreatitis and other congenital abnormalities in children with the foramen of Winslow hernia have not been reported previously in the literature.
