Blood-aqueous barrier deterioration following retained metallic corneal foreign body: A laser flare photometric study.

Background: Dystonia is a common hyperkinetic movement disorder in children; however, making an early and definitive diagnosis of dystonia can sometimes be challenging for clinicians.

Case: Herein, we report a case of a 16 years-old girl presenting with laryngeal dystonia due to compound heterozygosity of a known pathogenic and a novel variant in the ATM gene. Serum alpha-fetoprotein level was elevated.

The association of exaggerated hypertensive response to exercise and beta-blockers use in hypertensives.

Purpose: An elevation in blood pressure (BP) during exercise is the normal physiological response, however an abnormally exaggerated rise in BP, in terms of hypertensive response to exercise (HRE), is seen as a prognostic factor for end-organ damage and mortality. HRE is more common in hypertensive (HT) patients and data are lacking on the effect of antihypertensive medication on HRE. In this study, we evaluated patients who underwent treadmill exercise testing (TET) to reveal the effect of antihypertensive medication on HRE.

Comparison of the neurocognitive outcomes in term infants treated with levetiracetam and phenobarbital monotherapy for neonatal clinical seizures.

Purpose: This study aims to compare the neurocognitive outcome in term infants who were treated using phenobarbital (PB) and levetiracetam (LEV) monotherapy for neonatal clinical seizures.

Methods: Term infants who were treated using PB or LEV monotherapy as the first-line anti-epileptic treatment for neonatal clinical seizures and followed-up in a pediatric neurology outpatient clinic were enrolled in this study. Neurodevelopmental outcome assessments were carried out using the Bayley Scales of Infant Development, third edition (BSID-III), including cognitive, receptive language, expressive language, fine motor and gross motor subscales.

Pediatric case of persistent hiccups associated with hypertrophic olivary degeneration.

Background: Hypertrophic olivary degeneration (HOD) is a rare degenerative disorder that is thought to occur subsequent to a disruption of the dentate-rubro-olivary pathway.

Case: We report a pediatric case of unilateral HOD presented with persistent hiccups and palatal tremor. Radiological examination of diaphragm was normal considering ultrasound and chest x-ray.

Synthesis and biological evaluation of novel 1,3,4-thiadiazole derivatives as possible anticancer agents.

The synthesis of new N-(5-substituted-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)-2-[(5-(substituted amino)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)thio]acetamide derivatives and investigation of their anticancer activities were the aims of this work. All the new compounds' structures were elucidated by elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and MS spectral data. Anticancer activity studies of the compounds were evaluated against MCF-7 and A549 tumor cell lines.

[Turkish Cardiology Association Consensus Report: COVID-19 Pandemic and Cardiovascular Diseases (May 13, 2020)].

In December 2019, in the city of Wuhan, in the Hubei province of China, treatment-resistant cases of pneumonia emerged and spread rapidly for reasons unknown. A new strain of coronavirus (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 [SARS-CoV-2]) was identified and caused the first pandemic of the 21st century. The virus was officially detected in our country on March 11, 2020, and the number of cases increased rapidly; the virus was isolated in 670 patients within 10 days.

A versatile model for investigating the protective effects of Ceratonia siliqua pod extract against 1,4-dioxane toxicity.

In this study, the toxic effects of 1,4-dioxane, a common contaminant, and the protective property of Ceratonia siliqua L. pod extract (Cspe) against this toxicity are aimed to be demonstrated with a versatile model. For this purpose, Allium toxicity test was used and six different experimental groups were formed.

Synthesis, characterization and carbonic anhydrase I and II inhibitory evaluation of new sulfonamide derivatives bearing dithiocarbamate.

In this study, novel dithiocarbamate-sulfonamide derivatives (3a-3k) were synthesized to investigate their inhibitory activity on purified human carbonic anhydrase (hCA) I and II. The IC and K values of the compounds were calculated to compare their inhibition profiles on hCA I and II isoenzymes. Acetazolamide was used as the standard inhibitor in the enzyme inhibition assay.

Minimally Invasive Open Surgical Approach and Outcomes for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Objectives: The most common peripheral neuropathy is carpal tunnel syndrome. The present study aims to describe our minimally invasive open surgical approach for carpal tunnel syndrome and evaluate surgical outcomes.

Methods: We included 217 patients who were operated in our clinic for carpal tunnel syndrome by minimally invasive open surgical approach.

Cranio-Orbital Tumors: Clinical Results and A Surgical Approach.

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to share the surgical approaches and clinical experiences of cranio-orbital tumors, which are surgically difficult anatomies.

Methods: A total of 22 orbital tumors with extraorbital-transcranial pathology between January 2004 and December 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. Information was obtained from hospital, operation and outpatient records for this study.

Behavioral Response of Weaned Pigs during Gas Euthanasia with CO, CO with Butorphanol, or Nitrous Oxide.

The swine industry is often forced to euthanize pigs in the first few weeks of life due to injuries, hernias, or unthriftiness. The majority of pigs are euthanized using carbon dioxide (CO) gas asphyxiation but concerns as to the humaneness of CO are increasing. This study compared the euthanasia of weaned pigs using NO (NO; = 9) or CO ( = 9), at 50% and 25% min exchange rate, respectively.

Obstructive jaundice and severe pancreatitis due to the foramen of Winslow hernia with multiple anomalies.

Internal hernia through the foramen of Winslow is a very rare condition, especially in children. Here we report a 16-month-old girl who presented with obstructive jaundice and elevation of pancreatic enzymes and was ultimately diagnosed with internal hernia and malrotation by radiologic investigation and open approach surgery. To the best of our knowledge, obstructive jaundice with pancreatitis and other congenital abnormalities in children with the foramen of Winslow hernia have not been reported previously in the literature.
