The optimization of these processes poses significant challenges due to the need for high efficiency and sustainability while managing costs and energy consumption. This review comprehensively addresses these challenges by focusing on the development and application of various membrane filtration technologies specifically designed for the effective harvesting and dewatering of algal biomass.

Human urine, a highly saline solution rich in plant-available nutrients, leaves behind significant organic matter after nutrient recovery, necessitating additional treatment for environmental protection. While nutrient recovery from human urine is well-documented in the literature, research on the safe handling of the residual liquid phase is notably lacking. This study investigates nutrient recovery from source-separated human urine using clinoptilolite for the ion exchange/adsorption process and evaluates the safe management of the residual liquid through anaerobic granular sludge and a second-stage of sorption.

Evaluating Ammonia Toxicity and Growth Kinetics of Four Different Microalgae Species.

Although wastewater with high ammonia concentration is an ideal alternative environment for microalgae cultivation, high ammonia concentrations are toxic to microalgae and inhibit microalgae growth. Factors associated with thirty-day mortality and intensive care unit admission in patients undergoing hip fracture surgery.

Background: Various factors contribute to the development of mortality and morbidity in hip fracture surgeries. This study aims to investigate the effects of modifiable factors such as the type of anesthesia, anesthesia management, surgical method, and timing of surgery on 30-day mortality rates, intensive care unit admissions, and complications.

Methods: A total of 400 patients who underwent hip fracture surgery between January 2021 and December 2023 at a Training and Research Hospital were retrospectively analyzed.

This study aimed to investigate the expression patterns of genes associated with inflammation and oxidative stress in ovarian and uterine tissues of dogs with pyometra, categorized by cervical status (open cervix or closed cervix), which influences disease severity. Pyometra is a life-threatening disease, the severity of which depends on cervical patency status. This study investigated cervical inflammation status as well as the expression patterns and localization of aquaporin (AQP1, AQP2, AQP3, AQP5, and AQP9), and hormone receptors in cervical tissue that influences canine pyometra. Of the 36 animals enrolled in the study, 24 were diagnosed with pyometra and separated into two groups: open cervix pyometra and close cervix pyometra, while 12 healthy animals presented for elective ovariohysterectomies were allocated into the control group.

In recent years especially during COVID-19, the increased usage of antiviral drugs has led to increased interest in monitoring their presence in wastewater worldwide. In this study, it was examined the occurrence, fate and environmental risks of favipiravir which is used for COVID-19 treatment in two wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) with different treatment processes in Istanbul, Turkey. Favipiravir was measured in WWTPs influent samples, effluent samples and sludge samples with maximum concentrations of 97 μg/L, 64.

Comparison of the effects of axillary brachial plexus block, inhalation anesthesia, and total intravenous anesthesia on tourniquet-induced ischemia-reperfusion injury in upper extremity surgery.

Background: Post-ischemia reperfusion can lead to oxidative stress and an increase in oxidative markers. Employing preventive strategies and antioxidant agents may help mitigate ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI). The use of a tourniquet in extremity surgery has been associated with IRI.

Physical comorbidities of older age bipolar disorder (OABD) patients: A global replication analysis of prevalence and sex differences.

Objectives: To compare the prevalence of physical morbidities between older aged patients with bipolar disorder (OABD) and non-psychiatric comparisons (NC), and to analyze sex differences in prevalence.

Methods: OABD was defined as bipolar disorder among adults aged ≥50 years. Outcomes analyzed were the prevalence of diseases affecting the cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, renal, musculoskeletal, and endocrine systems.

Neurotrophic factor levels and executive functions in children of parents with bipolar disorder: A case controlled study.

Background: In the current study, it was aimed to evaluate neurotrophic factor levels and their relationship with executive functions in high-risk children and adolescents (high-risk group) whose parents were diagnosed with bipolar disorder (BD) but not affected by any psychiatric disease,and in order to determine possible vulnerability factors related to the disease.

Methods: The study sample consisted of 32 high-risk group and 34 healthy controls. Comparison of Clinical Outcomes between del Nido Cardioplegia and Microplegia among Patients Undergoing Elective Mitral Valve Replacement.

Background: Cardioplegia solutions are used to protect the myocardium from ischemic injury caused by cardiopulmonary bypass and various types of cardioplegia solutions have been introduced for cardiac surgery. In this study, we aimed to compare the effects of del Nido cardioplegia and microplegia, which were mostly used in our clinic for intraoperative and postoperative processes among patients who underwent elective mitral valve replacement. As a result, the comparison could be performed in a specific patient group without additional valvular or coronary disease, and cardioplegia distribution could be achieved more efficiently.

Through-the-Scope Suturing for Late-Onset Fistula Closure in the Setting of Bariatric Surgery.

Anastomotic leaks related to bariatric surgeries are uncommon but are related to increased morbidity and mortality. With the recent advances in intraluminal endoscopic interventions, there are some alternative options to close the leak via over-the-scope-clips/suturing or through-the-scope-clips/suturing or covered stent placement. Herein, we aimed to discuss the efficiency and the role of the through-the-scope suturing technique (X-Tack-160-H, Apollo Endosurgery, Austin, Texas, United States) in two different cases who presented with anastomotic leaks following bariatric surgery.

This study aimed to assess the spiritual care support perception and spiritual care competence of nursing students, and the effect of a spiritual care course on their perceptions and competence in this regard.
