Drug-related problems in cancer patients: A systematic review.

Background: Cancer patients are at a significantly increased risk of drug-related problems due to multiple drugs. An inclusive review of drug-related problems would offer an approach for healthcare providers to decrease the frequency of drug-related problems in cancer patients. The purpose of this study was to assess all characteristic components of drug-related problems in cancer patients, and explore actions taken to resolve the detected drug-related problems the results could be used as a baseline for epidemiology and potential related risk factors for drug-related problems in cancer patients.

Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease associated with psychological distress and intestinal microbial changes. Here, we examined whether a 3-month period of Cognitive Behavioral and Mindfulness with Daily Exercise (COBMINDEX) intervention, which improves the wellbeing and inflammatory state of CD patients, may also affect their gut microbiome. Gut microbiota, circulating inflammatory markers and hormones were analyzed in 24 CD patients before (T1) and after 3 months of COBMINDEX (T2), and in 25 age- and sex-matched wait-list control patients at the corresponding time-points.

Gender disparity in maintenance hemodialysis units in South India: a cross-sectional observational study.

Background: Diseases manifest differently according to gender in many medical specialties. However, sex differences in kidney diseases have not been well explored worldwide, especially in India. These differences could also be attributed to sociocultural factors.

Assessment of hypoxemia among young adults with sickle cell anaemia in steady state in southwestern Nigeria: a crosssectional study.

Objectives: Hypoxia is a known feature of sickle cell anaemia (SCA) which results from chronic anaemia and recurrent vaso-occlusive crisis (VOC) which can cause tissue ischaemia that leads to an end organ damage. The hallmark of SCA is chronic anaemia and recurrent vaso-occlusive crisis. The aim of this study is to compare the oxygen saturation of sickle cell anaemic individuals with the normal haemoglobin type (Hb AA) control and also to determine the prevalence of hypoxemia among SCA.

Chlorpyrifos (CPF) is an organophosphorus-based insecticide, which is known to pose a serious risk to aquatic animals. However, the mechanisms of CPF toxicity in animals still remain unclear. Efficacy evaluation of Mongolian medical warm acupuncture for sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation: a randomized, controlled, single-blind clinical trial.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the short-term and long-term efficacy of Mongolian medical warm acupuncture for sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation (LDH).

Patients And Methods: The patients diagnosed with sciatica caused by LDH were randomly divided into the warm acupuncture of the Mongolian medicine group (n = 42, warm acupuncture treatment), the sham acupuncture group (n = 38, sham acupuncture using blunt-tipped needles) and the conventional drug group (n = 40, ibuprofen sustained release capsule). All patients were treated for 4 weeks and followed up for 8 weeks.

Baseline findings of a multicentric ambispective cohort study (2021-2022) among hospitalised mucormycosis patients in India.

In India, the incidence of mucormycosis reached high levels during 2021-2022, coinciding with the COVID-19 pandemic. In response to this, we established a multicentric ambispective cohort of patients hospitalised with mucormycosis across India. In this paper, we report their baseline profile, clinical characteristics and outcomes at discharge.

A Massive Growth in the Palate: A Case Report.

This case report describes a 67-year-old woman who developed an extensive, slow-growing lesion occupying the whole of the palate in 10 years. Considering clinical and radiographic features, calcifying neoplasms were considered. Correlating microscopic features with clinical features, the lesion was diagnosed as peripheral ossifying fibroma, which seldom presents as an extensive lesion on the palate amongst the elderly age group.

Physical fitness has been extensively shown to strongly associate with general health status and major health risks. Here we tested the ability of a novel estimate of fitness age (FitAge) to differentiate aging trajectories.This study aimed at (1) testing the ability of FitAge to differentiate aging patterns among decelerated, normal, and accelerated agers in selected health domains, (2) estimating the risk for developing major health issues depending on the aging trajectory, and (3) comparing FitAge to body mass index (BMI) categorization in differentiating healthy from unhealthy aging patterns.

Coinfection with hepatic cystic and alveolar echinococcosis with abdominal wall abscess and sinus tract formation: A case report.

Background: Hepatic cystic and alveolar echinococcosis coinfections, particularly with concurrent abscesses and sinus tract formation, are extremely rare. This article presents a case of a patient diagnosed with this unique presentation, discussing the typical imaging manifestations of both echinococcosis types and detailing the diagnosis and surgical treatment experience thereof.

A Rare Case of Garre's Osteomyelitis of Tibia in an Adult.

To explore a rare case of Garre's osteomyelitis in an adult, typically observed in children, and detail its diagnostic and treatment approach, we conducted a case study of a 40-year-old male presenting with persistent right tibial pain. Through diagnostic procedures, including radiography and MRI, a broad differential diagnosis was established. Histopathological examination post-surgical intervention confirmed Garre's osteomyelitis.

Validation of a rapid molecular detection test for gram-negative multidrug-resistant bacteria in rectal swabs upon admission of patients to the intensive care unit.

In ICU settings, screening patients upon admission for potential multiresistant bacteria (BMR) carriers is crucial. Traditionally, clinical decisions relied on delayed culture results, but a rapid PCR molecular test called RealCycler-Rezero-U/G (Progenie-molecular©), emerged as an alternative. The CUFF, Clenching Upper-Limb Force Feedback Wearable Device: Design, Characterization and Validation.

This paper outlines the design, characterization, and validation of a novel wearable haptic device capable of delivering skin stretch, force feedback, or a combination of both, to the user's arm. In this study, we conducted physical and perceptual characterization with eleven able-bodied participants, and two separate experiments involving discrimination and manipulation tasks, encompassing a total of 32 participants.
