Distribution of CPP-Protein Complexes in Freshly Resected Human Tissue Material.

Interest in cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) as delivery agents has fuelled a large number of studies conducted on cultured cells and in mice. However, only a few studies have been devoted to the behaviour of CPPs in human tissues. Therefore, we performed ex vivo tissue-dipping experiments where we studied the distribution of CPP-protein complexes in samples of freshly harvested human tissue material.

Monitoring of the effect of intervertebral disc nucleus pulposus ablation by MRI.

In order to investigate intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration and repair, a quantitative non-invasive tool is needed. Various MRI methods including qCPMG, which yields dipolar echo relaxation time (T(DE)), magnetization transfer contrast (MTC), and (1)H and (2)H double quantum filtered (DQF) MRI were used in the present work to monitor changes in rat IVD after ablation of the nucleus pulposus (NP), serving as a model of severe IVD degeneration. In the intact IVD, a clear distinction between the annulus fibrosus (AF) and the NP is obtained on T(2) and T(DE) weighted images as well as on MTC maps, reflecting the high concentration of ordered collagen fibers in the AF.

Intracavity wavelength modulation of an optical parametric oscillator for coherent Raman microscopy.

We present a novel intracavity frequency modulation scheme in a tunable, picosecond optical parametric oscillator (OPO). The OPO signal wavelength can be modulated with a depth of more than 10 nm at a rate of 38 MHz (one half its repetition rate). We discuss the design and construction of the light source and its application to the recently-developed frequency modulation coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (FM-CARS) and stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) techniques.

TP expression was evaluated with immunohistochemistry assays using monoclonal anti-TP antibody in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded archived specimens of 70 patients with radically operated nonmetastatic RCC (M0 by TNM classification). Long-lasting maintenance of learning-induced enhanced neuronal excitability: mechanisms and functional significance.

Pyramidal neurons in the piriform cortex of olfactory discrimination trained rats show enhanced intrinsic neuronal excitability that lasts for several days after learning. Such enhanced intrinsic excitability is mediated by long-term reduction in the postburst after hyperpolarization which is generated by repetitive spike firing. The molecular machinery underlying such long-lasting modulation of intrinsic excitability, as well as its exceptional durability, is yet to be fully described.
