Monitoring of breast cancer progression via aptamer-based detection of circulating tumor cells in clinical blood samples.

Breast cancer (BC) diagnostics lack noninvasive methods and procedures for screening and monitoring disease dynamics. Admitted CellSearch is used for fluid biopsy and capture of circulating tumor cells of only epithelial origin. Here we describe an RNA aptamer (MDA231) for detecting BC cells in clinical samples, including blood.

[Experience with using cyanoacrylate glue in endovascular treatment of varicose veins].

The method of cyanoacrylate-mediated obliteration of subcutaneous veins is known to be an alternative to thermal endovascular obliteration and eliminates the need for tumescent anaesthesia. This technique is based on glue-induced damage to the venous intima, followed by immune response according to the delayed-type hypersensitivity principle. The authors report herein their first experience with using cyanoacrylate-mediated embolization in treatment of patients presenting with varicose veins.

[Mammaglobin in peripheral blood and tumor in breast cancer patients].

Currently, no molecular biological markers do exist for early diagnosis of breast cancer. One of the possible candidates for the marker of early breast cancer is mammaglobin (MGB1) or SCGB2A2 (secretoglobin, family 2A, member 2), characterized by the maximal expression level in early breast cancer. Using the RT-PCR method MGB1 mRNA expression was examined in 57 tumor tissue samples and 57 samples of morphologically non-malignant tissue (MNT) of breast cancer (BC) patients.

Regularities in the formation of structural and functional changes in the brain in technogenic stress.

Study of structural and functional changes in the brain under the influence of anthropogenic factors showed that limbic brain structures and especially the hippocampus undergo most pronounced reorganization.

[Use of fissured mandible autotransplants for eye socket walls reconstruction].

Mandible cortical spongy autotransplants were used for a long period of time in dentoalveolar surgery for alveolar process reconstruction with the aim to prepare for implantation and prosthesis making. For the first time in our country mandible transplants were used by us for eye socket walls defects of traumatic and posttraumatic origin. In the article the results of the use of parietal and mandible spongy-cortical transplants with the aim to reconstruct eye socket in cases of isolated fractures.

[Effect of metabolizable peptide p16INK4a on short-lived human tumor cultures].

The study was concerned with antitumor action of internalized peptide incorporating a fragment of p161INK4a using a model of short-lived human tumor cultures sampled from resected material. Renal cancer sample showed the greatest therapeutic interval.

Cytokeratin 19 mRNA concentration in lymph nodes as a diagnostic marker of metastases.

Comparison of the sensitivity of cytological and molecular genetic methods (19 specimens of lymph nodes from 8 patients with breast cancer and suspected metastases obtained by transcutaneous fine-needle aspiration biopsy under ultrasound guidance) showed that molecular genetic and cytological studies produced true results in 95 and 84% specimens, respectively. True-positive and true-negative results were obtained in 8 and 7 patients, respectively. Expression of cytokeratin 19 was detected in 3 specimens with negative cytological results and confirmed metastases in lymph nodes.

There are discussed possibilities of spiral computer tomography use in cases of defects and deformations of face bones and soft tissues elimination.

[Use of flow cytometry in diagnosis of urinary bladder cancer].

Urinary bladder cancer ranks 11th (10-15 cases per 100,000 annually) in the oncological morbidity registry. Morphological diagnosis is generally confirmed by cytological assay of urinary sediment or lavage liquid. Yet, the method is effective only with low-differentiated cell tumor.

[Clinical and X-ray assessment of different modes for correcting orbital bottom defects in posttraumatic deformities of the middle one-third of the facial skeleton].

The paper describes the evolution and consequences of different modes of eliminating orbital bottom defects and deformities that develop in posttraumatic deformities due to bone fractures of the facial mid-skeleton. Spiral computed tomography of this portion of the facial skeleton has demonstrated that the optimum results of restoration of the orbital bottom and those of elimination of eyeball displacement give the use of osteoplasty with a split parietal bone graft.

Effects of hydroxysterols and atorvastatin on lipopolysaccharide-induced secretion of tumor necrosis factor and interleukin-10 by mouse macrophages.

Preincubation of macrophages with atorvastatin, cholesterol, 25-, 27-hydroxycholesterol, and 7-ketocholesterol reduced the level of TNF-alpha to 10, 61, 13, 64.5, and 82%, respectively. Addition of mevalonate to the preincubation medium canceled the effects atorvastatin, cholesterol, and 7-ketocholesterol, but not the effects of 25- and 27-hydroxycholesterols.

[Some topical problems in the use of spiral computed tomography in the treatment of patients with posttraumatic deformities of the middle and upper third of the facial skull].

The paper presents a procedure for examining patients with posttraumatic deformities of the middle and upper third of the facial skull on a spiral computed tomograph and the schemes for estimating the size of enophthalmos, which permit elimination of eyeball recession.

[Simultaneous repair of the zygomatico-naso-orbital complex by free bone and cartilage autotransplants].

A method for simultaneous surgical treatment of various types of injuries of bone and soft-tissue structures of the zygomatico-naso-orbital area is presented. Special attention is paid to repair of posttraumatic eno- and hypophthalmos. A total of 42 patients were operated on by the proposed methods at Central Institute of Dentistry in 1998-2002.

Kinetic description of proteolysis. Part 1. Peptic hydrolysis of proteins isolated from chicken heart: optimization in terms of time and substrate concentration.

Simple equation for the total rate of proteolysis is proposed. The equation, based on the renal mechanism of proteolysis includes the substrate concentration and some functions of the degree of hydrolysis. These functions are experimentally determined in the case of peptic hydrolysis of chicken heart proteins.
