The aim of the study was to find whether the type of diabetes and the duration of this disease causes any influence on gallbladder (GB) emptying, after exclusion of possible effect of obesity and a hyperglycaemia over 7 mmol/l (126 mg%) on this phenomenon. The investigations were carried out in 44 subjects with diabetes mellitus, among them 22 with type I and 22 with type II. These groups were divided according to disease duration: shorter or longer than 3 years.

[Effect of misoprostol, a synthetic prostaglandin E analog, on levels of serum C-peptide in serum and glucose tolerance].

The aim of the study was to investigate whether oral application of misoprostol (MI), which is an analogue of prostaglandin E1, does change the secretion of insulin and the blood glucose level. Serum amino-terminal propeptide of type III procollagen in patients with hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism during therapy.

Changes in serum amino-terminal type III procollagen propeptide (PIIIPN) and hydroxyproline were compared with indices of thyroid function in 33 patients with hyperthyroidism and 16 patients with hypothyroidism before and after treatment. Control values were obtained from 26 healthy individuals. Hyperthyroidism was shown to be associated with an increased level of PIIIPN and hypothyroidism with a decreased PIIIPN level.

Lithium in vitro enhances interleukin-2 production by T cells from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.

Cellular immunity is impaired in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). A decreased production of interleukin-2 by T cells isolated from blood of patients with SLE was found. The decrease correlated with severity of the disease.

Serum markers of collagen metabolism in patients with diseases of the respiratory system.

The variations of the serum markers of collagen metabolism such as total and free hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine and collagen-like protein were studied in patients with chronic bronchitis, pneumonia and emphysema as compared to healthy controls. The values found in diseased subjects were significantly higher than in controls.
