Background: Menopause is associated with an increased risk of kidney stone disease (KSD). However, for postmenopausal women, how to avoid KSD has rarely been studied. The aim of this study was to explore whether drinking tea is associated with a reduction in the prevalence of KSD in postmenopausal women.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focused on how different surgical approaches for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) affect recovery, specifically looking at balance and strength in older adults three months post-surgery.
  • - Researchers compared patients who underwent the lateral parapatellar approach (LPPA) and mid-vastus approach (MVA) using a gait laboratory to assess their balance control compared to healthy individuals.
  • - Results showed that the MVA group had better balance and functional recovery post-surgery, while the LPPA group experienced greater issues with balance control, suggesting that MVA may be a more effective option for improving gait outcomes in the short term.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the oncological outcome of delayed surgical wait time from the diagnosis of upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) to radical nephroureterectomy (RNU).

Methods: In this multicenter retrospective study, medical records were collected between 1988 and 2021 from 18 participating Taiwanese hospitals under the Taiwan UTUC Collaboration Group. Patients were dichotomized into the early (≤90 days) and late (>90 days) surgical wait-time groups.

Article Synopsis
  • - About 50% of older adults have knee osteoarthritis (OA), which affects their walking patterns and increases the likelihood of falls.
  • - A study compared 15 older adults with severe knee OA to 15 healthy controls, measuring factors like the inclination angle (IA) and the rate of change of IA (RCIA) while they walked.
  • - Results showed those with OA had worse balance control, with significant reductions in RCIA and increased IA, indicating a greater fall risk; therefore, monitoring gait stability in these individuals is recommended.

This study evaluated the differences in spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH) between rural and urban areas of Taiwan with big data analysis. We used big data analytics and visualization tools to examine government open data, which included the residents' health medical administrative data, economic status, educational status, and relevant information. The study subjects included sICH patients of Taipei region (29,741 cases) and Eastern Taiwan (4565 cases).

The aim of this study is to examine the therapeutic potential of deep sea water (DSW) on osteoporosis. Previously, we have established the ovariectomized senescence-accelerated mice (OVX-SAMP8) and demonstrated strong recovery of osteoporosis by stem cell and platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Deep sea water at hardness (HD) 1000 showed significant increase in proliferation of osteoblastic cell (MC3T3) by MTT assay.
