Background: Internalized stigma experienced by individuals with schizophrenia and bipolar affective disorder dramatically affects their overall quality of life. While several studies have explored this topic, there remains a scarcity of research comparing internalized stigma across both these illnesses. We investigated and compared how internalized stigma is associated with different socio-demographic factors among individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar affective disorder in remission.

Clinical features and outcomes in acute psychosis: A retrospective hospital-based study in rural patients of central India.

Background: Acute and transient psychotic disorder (ATPD) is a distinct diagnostic category (F23) in ICD-10 which includes non-schizophrenic and non-affective psychoses following a transient course. The clinical features, diagnostic stability, and epidemiology of ATPD have not been adequately explored in the developing countries. The aim was to explore the socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of ATPD as well as examine the diagnostic stability and longitudinal revisions in the diagnosis of ATPD.

Background And Aim: There is limited literature on the prevalence of mixed features in patients with depression, especially from countries in Asia. Our aim was to evaluate the prevalence of "mixed features" in patients with first-episode depression.

Materials And Methods: Patients with first-episode depression were evaluated for the presence of mixed features as per the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM)-5 criteria.

Absence of undergraduate medical students from psychiatric training: A study from central India.

Background: Psychiatric problem is as common as among the 25% of the general population and 15% patients attending specialty clinic. Majority of the cases are dealt by primary care physician at the first contact, but there is only 2 weeks of clinical posting and 20 h of theory classes during MBBS course. Earlier studies have reported low attendance during the posting and theory classes.

Introduction: To mitigate the spread of the pandemic coronavirus infection (COVID-19), governments across the world have adopted "lockdowns" which have confined many individuals to their homes. This disrupts normal life routines, elements of which are important circadian cues. The pandemic is also associated with new stressors, altered roles, and uncertainties about health and economic security, which are also likely to affect sleep.

Background: Mood disorders and psychosis has been reported among the patients with macrocytosis; however, its prevalence among the first episode of psychosis and depression is unknown. The purpose of the study was to establish the prevalence of macrocytosis among the patients with the first episode of depression and psychosis.

Materials And Methods: In this cross-sectional study, three groups comprising patients with first episode of depression ( = 100), patients with the first episode of psychosis ( = 100), and healthy controls ( = 100) were included.

Potential Bedside Utility of the Clock-Drawing Test in Evaluating Rapid Therapeutic Response in the Natural Course of Schizophrenia: A Preliminary Study.

The Clock-Drawing Test (CDT) is a brief, relatively time-efficient, easy to administer at bedside, and well-proven cognitive screening test that assesses a broad range of cognitive abilities in stroke, delirium, and dementia. However, challenges of comprehensive therapeutic outcome evaluations in schizophrenia can also be potentially overcome using CDT. The authors aimed to measure the therapeutic outcome using CDT in 101 schizophrenia patients, irrespective of their diagnostic subtypes.

Neuropsychiatric Manifestation of Hashimoto's Encephalopathy in an Adolescent and Treatment.

Hashimoto's encephalopathy is usually underdiagnosed and untreated because of complex neuropsychiatric manifestation. We report a case of an adolescent female with Hashimoto's encephalopathy who responded well to a combination of aspirin and levothyroxine. A 16-year-old girl presented at psychiatric emergency services with a depressive episode, menstrual irregularities, and a 5-month past history of thyroid swelling.
