Evaluation of selected circulating cytokines from the IL-6 family - interleukin 6, oncostatin M, and cardiotrophin-1 - in gastro-entero-pancreatic and bronchial neuroendocrine tumours.

Introduction: The incidence of neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) increased over the last years. Most of them are non-functioning, and the course of the disease is asymptomatic for a long time. This results in late diagnosis at an advanced stage.

Role of Selected Circulating Tumor Biomarkers in Patients with Skeletal Metastatic Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms.

We investigated the diagnostic capacity of selected circulating biomarkers (CBMs) for the early detection of bone metastasis (BMets) in patients with pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (PanNENs). A total of 115 patients with PanNENs and 40 controls were enrolled. We measured the serum levels of ferritin, cytokeratin 18 (CY18), CA19-9, CA125, AFP, CEA, and beta-2 microglobulin (B2M).

Association between Biomarkers (VEGF-R2, VEGF-R3, VCAM-1) and Treatment Duration in Patients with Neuroendocrine Tumors Receiving Therapy with First-Generation Somatostatin Analogues.

Angiogenic factors (AF) promote vascular formation and may thus support neuroendocrine tumour (NET) development. This study aimed to assess AF serum level changes in NET patients treated with prolonged-acting somatostatin analogues (SSAs). The study enrolled 49 healthy volunteers (Group A) and 56 NET patients: treatment naïve (Group B) and after-SSA treatment in various periods (months): under 12 (Group C), 13-24 (Group D), 25-36 (Group E), 37-60 (Group F), and over 60 months (Group G).

Assessment of VEGF and VEGF R1 serum levels in patients with neuroendocrine neoplasms before and after treatment with first-generation somatostatin analogues.

Introduction: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a known promoter of angiogenesis that can support neuroendocrine neoplasm (NEN) development. The aim of the study was to evaluate the serum VEGF and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1 (VEGF R1) concentration changes in patients with NEN treated with first-generation long-acting somatostatin analogues (SSA).

Material And Methods: The study comprised 55 controls and 56 NEN patients before and after SSA treatment in various periods of time (months): 1-12 (n = 54), 13-24 (n = 46), 25-36 (n = 35), 37-60 (n = 26), and over 60 months (n = 22).

After another meeting of experts of the Polish Network of Neuroendocrine Tumours, updated recommendations for the management of patients with gastric and duodenal neuroendocrine neoplasms, including gastrinoma, have been issued. As before, the epidemiology, pathogenesis and clinical symptoms of these neoplasms have been discussed, as well as the principles of diagnostic procedures, including biochemical and histopathological diagnostics and tumour localisation, highlighting the changes introduced in the recommendations. Updated principles of therapeutic management have also been presented, including endoscopic and surgical treatment, and the options of pharmacological and radioisotope treatment.

Spatio-temporal image correlation (STIC) in evaluation of advanced neuroendocrine tumours.

Introduction: 4D Ultrasound technology merging the Power Doppler option called High-Definition Flow (HDF) with Spatio-Temporal Image Correlation (STIC) is used in gynaecology and obstetrics. It seems to be a promising tool in assessing tissue vascularisation. The aim of the paper was to assess whether HDF STIC technique could be a useful tool for the evaluation of gastro-entero-pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasm (GEP-NEN) advancement.

Safety and feasibility of same-day early discharge after endovascular revascularization of lower extremities in elderly. SENIOR-ER registry.

Objective: The aim of the study was to assess safety and feasibility of one-day early discharge (ODD) after endovascular revascularization (ER) of lower extremities in elderly.

Background: Safety and feasibility of ODD after ER have never been investigated in the elderly, despite the PAD rate has been rising in well-developed countries as their populations are getting older.

Methods: The consecutive data of 477 patients after ER who were intended to ODD were reviewed.

Background: The impact of endovascular revascularization of the lower extremity arteries with atherectomy (AT) compared with percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) is still unclear. Therefore, the aim of the study was to compare long-term outcomes after percutaneous PTA and AT in patients requiring endovascular revascularization.Methods and Results:This was a single-center, retrospective registry of obstructive and symptomatic PAD patients who underwent endovascular revascularization.
