Variable Presentations of Emphysematous Liver Abscesses: Experiences From Four Cases at a Tertiary Care Center.

Emphysematous liver abscesses usually present with fever and abdominal pain with radiological investigations showing air inside the abscess cavity and biochemical parameters suggestive of sepsis. This is a condition that needs urgent intervention, but it can present with variable presentations and the gas under the right dome of the diaphragm makes the diagnosis in dilemma, confusing it with hollow viscous perforation. Hereby we present a case series of variable presentations of emphysematous liver abscesses, successfully managed by timely intervention.

An Unusual Presentation of Nodular Hidradenoma.

Benign adnexal neoplasms are quite a common occurrence in adults, especially in the head and neck region. They raise suspicion for malignancy if there are red flag signs like rapid increase in size, pain, ulceration or recurrence. We hereby report a case of a middle-aged gentleman who consulted our surgical OPD with right-sided neck swelling, which was initially thought to be a dermoid cyst; on further evaluation, found to be a dermal sweat gland tumour with features of nodular hidradenoma.

Objective: To appraise the pivotal points of different modifications of labia majora fasciocutaneous flap in combating the challenges of complex urogynecological fistula repair in the form of 7 cases.

Methods: Seven patients with complex urogynecological fistulas with vaginal deficit were treated over last 3 years. The challenges associated with them were non-capacious rigid vagina, irradiated and inflamed surrounding tissues, inelasticity, long-standing fistula with radiation-induced vesicovaginal fistula(VVF), an iatrogenic urethrovaginal fistula with anterior vaginal wall loss with vaginal stenosis, and a case of vesicolabial fistula with a history of forceps delivery and transvaginal VVF repair.

Clozapine induced gastrointestinal hypomotility (CIGH) has been suggested as one of the most common causes of significant morbidity and mortality. It commonly presents as constipation, but the reports of other small or large intestinal complications with fatal outcomes are not uncommon. Hereby, we report the case of a 24-year-old male, suffering from schizophrenia and being managed with clozapine, who developed symptoms of acute intestinal obstruction due to ceco-colic volvulus.

Energy Intake and Severity of Dementia Are Both Associated with Health-Related Quality of Life among Older Long-Term Care Residents.

Our aim was to investigate how energy intake modifies the association of the stage of dementia with health related quality of life (HRQoL) among institutionalized older people. A cross-sectional sample of 538 older long-term care residents with dementia in Helsinki, Finland were assessed with HRQoL (15D), energy intake (from one to two days), and the stage of dementia by the clinical dementia rating (CDR) scale. The energy intakes were standardized by -scores to include both men and women in the same analyses.
