Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is a well-established treatment modality for atrial fibrillation (AF). Apart from the desired effect regarding the arrhythmic substrate within the left atrium, PVI commonly leads to modulation of the intrinsic cardiac autonomic nervous system (ICANS). Using the available literature, this article presents the anatomy of ICANS and describes methods of assessing its function, mainly focusing on heart rate (HR) variability metrics.

Background: Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a common condition that affects a significant group of postmenopausal women, lowering quality of life, leading to embarrassment, social isolation, and decreased physical activity. SUI can be treated with medication, behavioral changes, pelvic floor muscle exercises, or surgical intervention. This study aimed to assess the changes in quality of life, acceptance of illness, and impact on physical activity, in patients after the transobturator tape (TOT) procedure following long-term assessment.

GIP_HUMAN [22-51] is a recently discovered peptide that shares the same precursor molecule with glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). In vivo, chronic infusion of GIP_HUMAN [22-51] in ApoE-/- mice enhanced the development of aortic atherosclerotic lesions and upregulated inflammatory and proatherogenic proteins. In the present study, we evaluate the effects of GIP_HUMAN [22-51] on insulin mRNA expression and secretion in insulin-producing INS-1E cells and isolated rat pancreatic islets.

On average, myomas of the uterus increase in volume by 20-30% annually in the premenopausal period. On the other hand, myomas regress spontaneously in about 20% of women.

Depending on the concentration, either a paracyclophane-like dimer with closely stacked benzene rings or a triangular trimer is the main product of the reaction. The macrocycles exhibit fluorescence in solution as well as in the solid state with maxima that are red-shifted with decreasing size of the macrocyclic ring and are observed at wavelengths from 590 (tetramer in solution) to 700 nm (dimer in the solid state).

Recently, we reported that NPB promotes the adipogenesis of rat white and brown preadipocytes as well as 3T3-L1 cells. In the present study, we evaluated the effects of NPB on the proliferation and differentiation of white porcine preadipocytes into mature adipocytes.

The Polish Registry of S-ICD Implantations was run by the Heart Rhythm Section of the Polish Cardiac Society between May 2020 and September 2022 to monitor the implementation of that therapy in Poland.
Aims: To investigate and present the state-of-the-art of S-ICD implantation in Poland.
Titanium dioxide is a commonly used ingredient in cosmetics acting as a thickening agent and inorganic UV filter. However, TiO is difficult to disperse, which causes problems in spreading the formulations. The solution to this problem is to modify the titanium dioxide surface to change its properties by creation of the new type of hybrid inorganic-organic UV filter.

Introduction: Acute myocardial infarction (MI) is one of the most common causes of death in humans in highly developed countries. Among its most frequent complications affecting the patient's prognosis are cardiac arrhythmias: ventricular tachycardia (VT) and ventricular fibrillation (VF).
Material And Methods: The study aimed to characterise arrhythmias in 19 pigs subjected to experimentally induced MI obtained by occlusion of the proximal left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery using an angioplasty balloon.

SPX (spexin) and its receptors GalR2 and GalR3 (galanin receptor subtype 2 and galanin receptor subtype 3) play an important role in the regulation of lipid and carbohydrate metabolism in human and animal fat tissue. However, little is still known about the role of this peptide in the metabolism of muscle. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of SPX on the metabolism, proliferation and differentiation of the skeletal muscle cell line C2C12.

Methods And Results: Data from 56 patients with HFrEF (mean left ventricle ejection fraction of 32 ± 6%) subjected to Valsalva and phenylephrine tests were analyzed retrospectively. Baroreflex-related (Valsalva-ratio and blood pressure-RR interval slope from phase IV) and non-baroreflex-related measures (systolic blood pressure rise in phase IV [ΔSBP], and pulse amplitude ratio [PAR]) were calculated from Valsalva.
Understanding of heart failure (HF) has evolved from a simple hemodynamic problem through a neurohormonally and proinflammatory-driven syndrome to a complex multiorgan dysfunction accompanied by inadequate energy handling. This article discusses the most important clinical aspects of advanced HF pathophysiology. It presents the concept of neurohormonal activation and its deleterious effect on cardiovascular system and reflex control.

Harnessing the well-defined dimeric magnesium tert-butylperoxide [(BDI)Mg(μ-η:η-OOtBu)] incorporating a fluorinated β-diketiminate ligand, herein, we demonstrate its transformation at ambient temperature to a spiro-type, tetranuclear magnesium alkylperoxide [(BDI)Mg(μ-OOtBu)]. The latter compound was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and its molecular structure can formally be considered as a homoleptic magnesium tert-butylperoxide [Mg(µ-OOtBu)] terminated by two monomeric magnesium tert-butylperoxides.
