Case Series of Laboratory-Associated Zika Virus Disease, United States, 2016-2019.

Zika virus diagnostic testing and laboratory research increased considerably when Zika virus began spreading through the Americas in 2015, increasing the risk for potential Zika virus exposure of laboratory workers and biomedical researchers. We report 4 cases of laboratory-associated Zika virus disease in the United States during 2016-2019. Of these, 2 were associated with needlestick injuries; for the other 2 cases, the route of transmission was undetermined.

Postnatally Acquired Zika Virus Disease Among Children, United States, 2016-2017.

Background: The clinical findings among children with postnatally acquired Zika virus disease are not well characterized. We describe and compare clinical signs and symptoms for children aged <18 years.

Methods: Zika virus disease cases were included if they met the national surveillance case definition, had illness onset in 2016 or 2017, resided in a participating state, and were reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Occupational Fatalities Resulting from Falls in the Oil and Gas Extraction Industry, United States, 2005-2014.

During 2003-2013, fatality rates for oil and gas extraction workers decreased for all causes of death except those associated with fall events, which increased 2% annually during 2003-2013 (1). To better understand risk factors for these events, CDC examined fatal fall events in the oil and gas extraction industry during 2005-2014 using data from case investigations conducted by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Sixty-three fatal falls were identified, accounting for 15% of all fatal events.

A cross-sectional evaluation of the prevalence and associations of HIV among female sex workers in the Gambia.

To determine HIV prevalence among female sex workers in the Gambia and HIV risk factors, we accrued participants (n = 251) through peer-referral and venue-based recruitment. Blood samples were screened for HIV and participants were administered a questionnaire. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression identified factors associated with HIV status.

A cross-sectional evaluation of correlates of HIV testing practices among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Mongolia.

This study analyzed patterns and associations of HIV testing including sexual practices, HIV related knowledge, and human rights contexts among MSM in Mongolia. 313 participants were accrued using respondent-driven sampling and administered a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics are presented with crude and adjusted-point estimates with confidence intervals (95 % CI); and logistic regression models were used to identify factors associated with HIV testing in the last 12 months.
