The acute phase of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 [coronavirus disease (COVID)] infection has many well-documented cardiovascular manifestations, however, the long-term sequelae are less understood. In this focused review, we explore the risk factors, character, and rates of cardiovascular events in patients with Long COVID, which is defined as symptoms occurring more than 4 weeks following initial infection. Research has identified increased rates of cerebrovascular disease, dysrhythmias, ischemic and inflammatory heart disease, cardiopulmonary symptoms, and thrombotic events among those with Long COVID, though the risk rates and potential mechanisms behind each cardiovascular event vary.

Drowning is a leading killer, particularly of children and young adults, yet has been greatly neglected. Despite accounting for a higher number of deaths than many other substantial public health issues, drowning has not benefitted from the targeted attention it requires, which is particularly tragic because low cost and effective drowning prevention interventions exist. Therefore, the recent UN General Assembly's adoption of a resolution on global drowning prevention is a historic first, and offers an exciting opportunity by providing a comprehensive framework and a practical roadmap that a range of actors and sectors, including governments, can follow to address the challenge of drowning prevention.

Objective: To describe the course and anatomo-pathologic findings in a patient with a cortisol-producing adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) who presented with disseminated invasive aspergillosis (DIA). We also review the clinical characteristics of ACC and the pathogenesis of DIA in the setting of hypercortisolemia.

Methods: We describe the case of a 47-year-old man with a recent diagnosis of ACC associated with hypercortisolism, who presented with a large right basal ganglia hematoma and lesions on multiple organs thought to be metastatic.

Self-amplified spontaneous emission (SASE) free electron laser (FEL) is capable of generating ultra-short, high power and high brightness X-ray pulses, but its temporal coherence is poor. Self-seeding scheme is an approach to improve the temporal coherence by employing a crystal monochromator. The crystal detuning effect is the phenomenon that the Bragg angle deviates from the middle of the reflection domain due to the refraction effect, and can affect the seed power of hard X-ray self-seeding (HXRSS) FEL.
