Objectives: When health outcomes relevant for economic evaluations are unavailable, algorithms can be developed to map utilities using available clinical outcome measures. This study aims to develop two mapping algorithms estimating EuroQol-5 dimension-3 level (EQ-5D-3 L) utilities using the clinician-rated Health of the Nation Outcome Scores (HoNOS) and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANNS).
Methods: A dataset with 2,029 observations of patients with psychotic disorders included EQ-5D-3 L, HoNOS, PANSS item scores, and demographics.
Following the description of an illustrative case of a 70-year-old female patient with longstanding active acromegaly and invalidating, progressive joint complaints, current insights regarding diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of acromegalic arthropathy are summarized. Since clinical trials on this topic are lacking, the reported recommendations are based on extensive clinical and research experience with this clinical entity, and on established diagnostics and interventions in patients with other rheumatic diseases. The cornerstones of the management of acromegalic arthropathy remains normalization of growth hormone and insulin growth factor-1 levels.

Left bundle branch block (LBBB) occurs early in about 20-30 % of TAVR-patients, persists at 1 month in about 35-45 % of cases and will likely remain thereafter. Third-degree atrioventricular block (AV3B) affects approximately 15 % of patients.

This study aimed to compare rectal cancer care at rural and urban hospitals in ANZ.
Methods: From the Bowel Cancer Outcomes Registry (BCOR, formerly known as the Bi-National Colorectal Cancer Audit; BCCA), rectal cancer patients treated between 2007 and 2020 were compared based on hospital location (urban versus rural).
Aim: To explore the self-perceived relationships between experiences of creativity and mental illness and to understand the meanings behind these relationships.
Background: The idea that mental illness and artistic creativity are somehow related dates back to ancient times. There is some evidence for an actual correlation, but many questions remain unanswered on the nature and direction of the relationship.
Osteitis of the sternocostoclavicular (SCC) region, referred to as sternocostoclavicular hyperostosis (SCCH), is the clinical expression of chronic non-bacterial osteitis (CNO) in adults with this rare chronic auto-inflammatory disorder of the axial skeleton. The diagnosis is based on distinctive computerized tomography (CT) features of sclerosis and hyperostosis of the SCC region, and local increases in osteoid formation visualized by high radiopharmacon uptake on skeletal scintigraphy but clear radiologic diagnostic criteria are lacking. In a cross-sectional study, CT scans and whole-body skeletal scintigraphy images obtained in 169 patients seen at the Center for Bone Quality of the Leiden University Medical Center between 2008 and 2018 with a suspected diagnosis of CNO of the SCC region were re-evaluated by 2 skeletal radiologists and 2 nuclear physicians.

Model adherence is a key indicator of mental health care quality. This study investigates the degree of model adherence, as well as content and staging of care, among the first Youth Flexible Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams in the Netherlands. Model fidelity was assessed in sixteen teams with the Youth Flexile ACT model fidelity scale (2014 version).

In this article, we argue that to understand how this can be done, we need to shift the attention from acute moments to daily uncertainty work conducted in community mental health teams. By drawing on an empirical ethics approach, we contrast the modes of caring of two teams in Utrecht and Trieste.

The cholinergic anti-inflammatory response is one of the major pathways involved in developing POI, but current recommendations to prevent POI do not target this. This review aims to summarise evidence for the use of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, neostigmine and pyridostigmine, to reduce the time to return of gastrointestinal function (GI) following abdominal surgery.

Multidisciplinary regional transmural agreements (RTA) in which guidelines were set concerning the information transfer of frail older patients might improve outcomes. We aim to investigate the effect of implementation of the RTA on the completeness of the information transfer of frail older patients when admitted to and discharged from the hospital.

This study aims to determine pCR rates and clinicopathological predictors in the Australian and New Zealand (ANZ) cohort. The Bi-National Colorectal Cancer Audit (BCCA) was interrogated for all rectal cancer patients who underwent nCRT prior to surgical resection between 2007 and 2020.

This is the first systematic review aimed at determining the average global hospital cost per patient associated with postoperative ileus.
Methods: A systematic search of electronic databases was performed from January 2000 to March 2023.

Purpose: This Multicenter Youth Flexible ACT Study examined the effect of Youth Flexible Assertive Community Treatment on symptomatic, social, and personal recovery outcomes of adolescents dealing with multifaceted psychiatric and social care needs who do not readily engage in regular office-based mental health services.
Methods: Newly admitted clients (n = 199) aged 12-24 years from 16 Youth Flexible ACT teams participated in this observational prospective cohort study. Client and practitioner questionnaires were administered every 6 months, up to 18 months.
Most cognitive remediation (CR) programs are based on multiple scientific learning principles. The role of those learning principles in the beneficial effects of CR is poorly understood. A better understanding of such underlying mechanisms is important to further tailor the intervention and to learn about optimal contexts.

Methods: In this prospective multi-centre study, the OKS and EQ-5D-5L index scores were collected preoperatively, six weeks (6w) and six months (6 m) following TKA. The OKS, EQ-VAS and EQ-5D-5L index were evaluated for minimally important difference (MID), concurrent validity, predictive validity (Spearman's Rho of predicted and observed values from a generalised linear regression model (GLM)), responsiveness (effect size (ES) and standard response mean (SRM)).
Introduction: The current opioid epidemic poses patient safety and economic burdens to healthcare systems worldwide. Postoperative prescriptions of opioids contribute, with reported opioid prescription rates following arthroplasty as high as 89%. In this multi-centre prospective study, an opioid sparing protocol was implemented for patients undergoing knee or hip arthroplasty.

Methods: In this prospective multi-centre study, patient-related outcome measures (PROMs) and length of stay (LOS) were compared between DAA and PA THA patients. The Oxford Hip Score (OHS), EQ-5D-5L, pain and satisfaction scores were collected at four perioperative stages.
Psammomatoid ossifying fibroma (PsOF), also known as juvenile PsOF, is a benign fibro-osseous neoplasm predominantly affecting the extragnathic bones, particularly the frontal and ethmoid bones, with a preference for adolescents and young adults. The clinical and morphologic features of PsOF may overlap with those of other fibro-osseous lesions, and additional molecular markers would help increase diagnostic accuracy. Because identical chromosomal breakpoints at bands Xq26 and 2q33 have been described in 3 cases of PsOF located in the orbita, we aimed to identify the exact genes involved in these chromosomal breakpoints and determine their frequency in PsOF using transcriptome sequencing and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).

Increasing the availability of health-economic evidence may aid in reducing this burden. The aim of this study is to describe the design of an open-source health-economic Markov model for assessing the cost-effectiveness of interventions in the treatment of Bipolar Disorders type I and II, TiBipoMod.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: As severe mental illness (SMI) is associated with a high disease burden and persistent nature, patients with SMI are often subjected to long-term mental healthcare and are in need of additional social support services. Community-based care and support services are organized via different providers and institutions, which are often lacking structural communication, resulting in a fragmented approach. To improve the efficiency of care provision and optimize patient wellbeing, an integrated multi-agency approach to community-based mental health and social services has been developed and implemented.
