Effect of six-week intervention program on postural stability measures and muscle coactivation in senior-aged women.

Objective: The objective involved the analysis of the efficiency of the Program of Movement Recreation of Elderly People (PMREP) exercise program expressed in terms of the stabilography measures and coactivation of muscles in women in the age group of 60-70 years. The assumption that was assumed stems from theoretical implications that the adequate postural stability is manifested in the decrease of the body sways measured by means of a force plate.

Materials And Methods: The study involved a group of 60 females, all members of the active seniors' association.

[Physical activity of adult residents of Katowice and selected determinants of their occupational status and socio-economic characteristics].

Background: The issue of physical activity (PA) is often addressed in the literature, but its socio-economic determinants are fully recognized. To date no studies of the adult population of Katowice have been carried out. Research in this area is of great importance in the context of the documented influence of PA on health and extension of retirement age in Poland.

[The case of spleen's tumor and trombocytopenia in pregnant women].

The women with spleen's tumor and trombocytopenia was diagnosed and observed during pregnancy, labour and puerperium. The lowest level of thrombocytes (50 K/microl) was detected in 32nd week of pregnancy. Termination of the pregnancy by cesarean section was performed because of a big risk for the mother and child (tumor's crack, haemorrhage, infection).

[The analisys of complications in forceps delivery in Institutute of Obsterics and Women Disease Medical University of Gdańsk].

Introduction: The forceps are the oldest obstetrics instrument using to quickly finishing delivery in situation of imminent fetal death. Forceps delivery increase the risk of new-born and women complications

Aim Of Study: The aim of the study was retrospective analysis of 215 forceps deliveries in Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Medical University of Gdańsk between years 1991 and 2004.

Material And Methods: 26653 deliveries took place in Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Medical University of Gdańsk between years 1991 and 2004 and in 215 cases deliveries finished by forceps operations.

[Pregnancy, delivery and puerperium in patients after liver transplantation].

We report two cases of successful pregnancies in women after liver transplantation for end-stage liver dysfunction caused in one case by Wilson disease and in the second one by lupoid hepatitis. For woman with the Wilson disease it was a second pregnancy and for woman with lupoid hepatitis it was the first pregnancy. Mothers continued immunosuppressive therapy during their pregnancies.

[Lymph node metastasis as a prognostic factor in cervical carcinoma].

Material And Methods: 499 patients with cervical carcinoma at stage I and IIa after radical hysterectomy were included in the study. Diagnosis was based on gynecological examinations and cervical biopsies. Clinical staging was determined by FIGO classification.

[The prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus in Polish population].

Objective: The aim of the study was to determine the frequency of GDM in different parts of Poland and to assess whether 1 h--glucose plasma levels after 50 g glucose tolerance test (50 g OGTT) reflect the risk of GDM.

Material And Methods: A total of 5778 pregnant women were screened with 50 g OGTT between 24 and 28 weeks of gestation. All subjects whose post-challenge glucose levels exceeded 140 mg/dl had 75 g OGTT performed according to WHO criteria.

[Neoadjuvant chemotherapy in the treatment of advanced cervical cancer].

Unlabelled: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has been used for treatment of advanced cervical cancer by some institutions for several years.

Purpose: We investigated the value of NAC for patients with IIb cervical cancer.

Materials And Methods: Eight patients treated at the 2nd Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Medical University of Gdansk between 1999 and 2000 for stage IIb cervical cancer were enrolled into the study.

[Coexistence of ovarian carcinoma with pregnancy--case report].

Objective: Ovarian tumors during pregnancy are a rare event. More ovarian tumors are detected accidently during ultrasonography examination or caesarean section at term.

Study Design: Ovarian tumor was recognized at the 36 years old patient during 21 weeks of pregnancy and was observed and treated during caesarean section.

[Co-existence of myoma uteri and pregnancy].

Objective: Myomas of uterus are the most common mild tumours of uterus. There is often observed the rapid increase of them during the pregnancy and then they could caused complications from 0.3% to 2.

[Nineteen year old patient with serous ovarian tumors of low malignant potential with non-invasive peritoneal implants: a case report].

10-15% of ovarian epithelial tumors are the borderline ovarian tumors (BOT-s). The prognosis in those cases is excellent with 5-years survival rates in the range of 95% in Stage I. The most of women suffering from BOT-s are young and they have not got any children.

[Hypertension in pregnancy, which resulted from intrauterine insemination].

The authors present an analysis of 117 pregnancies after intrauterine insemination (AIH) to indicate presence of disease during this period. We found out only 2.6% of EPH-gestosis among treated women, which means that frequency of PIH after AIH is lower then in natural population.

[Contraception and pregnancy in severe systemic lupus erythematosus: a case report].

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) during pregnancy may cause serious complications in the mother and fetus. We report a case of pregnancy in 23 years old woman with SLE. Pregnancy was complicated with spontaneous abortion and septic shock.

[The evaluation of forceps delivery complications].

141 forceps deliveries were studied. The frequency, number and type of complications were evaluated. Decreased number of forceps delivery and relatively high risk of complications in mothers and neonates were indicated.
