Background: During recent years FLASH radiotherapy (FLASH-RT) has shown promising results in radiation oncology, with the potential to spare normal tissue while maintaining the antitumor effects. The high speed of the FLASH-RT delivery increases the need for fast and precise motion monitoring to avoid underdosing the target. Surface guided radiotherapy (SGRT) uses surface imaging (SI) to render a 3D surface of the patient.

Article Synopsis
  • The first cases of early-onset progressive polyneuropathy in Alaskan Malamutes were identified in Norway during the late 1970s, initially affecting both male and female dogs, leading to severe mobility issues.
  • Genetic analysis revealed a harmful mutation in the NDRG1 gene in affected dogs, specifically a Gly98Val substitution linked to the disease.
  • This discovery not only establishes a potential genetic cause for the condition in Alaskan Malamutes but also presents a new model for understanding similar human neuropathies and the possibility of selective breeding to reduce the mutation's prevalence.
