Objective: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and vasomotor symptoms (VMS) are associated with increased cardiovascular disease risk. Although visceral adiposity has been linked to MASLD and VMS independently, this study aimed to evaluate associations between the two in midlife women.

Methods: A cross-sectional study of women aged 45-60 years receiving primary care at one of four sites was conducted from March 1 through June 30, 2021.

Purpose: Septic shock refractory to high-dose vasopressors confers unacceptably high mortality, however, the impact of timing of peak vasopressor dose exposure on outcomes is unknown.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included adults who required a vasopressor dose ≥0.5 μg/kg/min norepinephrine-equivalents in the first 24 h of septic shock.

Objective: To examine the effects of anti-Asian rhetoric on how patients perceive East/Southeast Asian physicians. This study examines changes in patient satisfaction scores of East/Southeast Asian physicians in a multisite health system following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Patients And Methods: We conducted a multisite retrospective study of clinicians from outpatient practices at a single health care system who received patient satisfaction scores via Press Ganey surveys starting 1 year prepandemic (January 1, 2019) through 2 years into the pandemic (December 31, 2021).

Background: Accurately estimating glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is crucial for dosing medications in hospitalized patients. Due to limitations of serum creatinine for GFR estimation, serum cystatin C (CysC) has been explored as an alternative functional kidney biomarker. This study assessed discordance between eGFR and eGFR in a large sample of hospitalized patients and examined the frequency of renally eliminated medications affected by eGFR discordance.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the frequency and risk factors of long-term complications in patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) who underwent liver transplantation (LT) between 1984 and 2012.
  • A total of 293 patients were analyzed over a median follow-up period of 15 years, revealing complications such as hepatic artery thrombosis and biliary strictures, with the recurrence of PSC increasing significantly over time.
  • The findings suggest that factors like donor age influence complications, and emphasize the need for careful monitoring and early detection of issues post-transplant to improve patient outcomes.

Introduction/objectives: We aimed to investigate the effect of family structure on depression program outcomes for adolescents enrolled in a depression-focused, primary care-based collaborative care program.

Methods: This was a retrospective study of primary care patients ages 12 to 18 years seen at a Midwestern academic center with data obtained by medical record review. We used logistic regression models to assess the effect of family structure on program graduation and achievement of a single Patient Health Questionnaire 9-Modified for Adolescents (PHQ-9M) score <5 at any time while enrolled.

Background And Objectives: Ketamine is increasingly being utilized in the management of acute pain in the emergency department (ED), including for older adults, a population at increased risk of adverse effects from medications. We aimed to compare the safety and analgesic effects of high-dose (≥0.3mg/kg) to low-dose (<0.

Objective: Transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) individuals have a gender identity or expression that differs from the sex assigned to them at birth. They are an underserved population who experience health care inequities. Our primary objective was to identify if there are treatment differences between TGD and cisgender lesbian/gay/bisexual/queer (LGBQ) or heterosexual individuals presenting with abdominal pain to the emergency department (ED).

However, their effectiveness has not been directly compared. This study examined all high-risk outpatients with mild to moderate COVID-19 who received either remdesivir or sotrovimab at Mayo Clinic during the Omicron BA.

The use of ceftriaxone, a highly protein-bound drug, in the setting of hypoalbuminemia may result in suboptimal drug exposure. Patients with obesity also exhibit higher absolute drug clearance. We aimed to evaluate the impact of hypoalbuminemia on clinical success among hospitalized adults with obesity who were treated with ceftriaxone.

Purpose: Proton relative biological effectiveness (RBE) is a dynamic variable influenced by factors like linear energy transfer (LET), dose, tissue type, and biological endpoint. The standard fixed proton RBE of 1.1, currently used in clinical planning, may not accurately represent the true biological effects of proton therapy (PT) in all cases.
