Background: Alpha-gal allergy or red meat allergy is a rare yet potentially severe allergy. Sensitisation usually occurs when alpha-gal present in the tick's saliva is transferred to humans during a tick bite, prompting the production of IgE antibodies to alpha-gal. Subsequent exposure to mammalian meat or other products containing alpha-gal can lead to allergic reactions.

Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in children in Norway: A national cohort study, 2016-2021.

Aim: Children constitute an important and distinct subgroup of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients. This population-based cohort study aims to establish current age-specific population incidence, precipitating causes, circumstances, and outcome of paediatric OHCA, to guide a focused approach to prevention and intervention to improve outcomes.

Methods: Data from the national Norwegian Cardiac Arrest Registry was extracted for the six-year period 2016-21 for persons aged <18 years.

Hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) mutations can result in clonal hematopoiesis (CH) with heterogeneous clinical outcomes. Here, we investigate how the cell state preceding Tet2 mutation impacts the pre-malignant phenotype. Using an inducible system for clonal analysis of myeloid progenitors, we find that the epigenetic features of clones at similar differentiation status are highly heterogeneous and functionally respond differently to Tet2 mutation.

Stromal Cell Isolation from Hematopoietic Organs.

Climate change impact studies need climate projections for different scenarios and at scales relevant to planning and management, preferably for a variety of models and realizations to capture the uncertainty in these models. To address current gaps, we statistically downscaled (SD) 3-7 CMIP6 models for five key indicators of marine habitat conditions: temperature, salinity, pH, oxygen, and chlorophyll across European waters for three climate scenarios SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.

Implementation and use of a supraglottic airway device in the management of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest by firefighter first responders - A prospective feasibility study.

Aim: We wanted to assess the implementation and use of a supraglottic airway (SGA) for on-call firefighter first responders in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

Methods: We trained 502 firefighter first responders, located at 35 fire stations in the South-East of Norway, in the use of SGA during cardiopulmonary resuscitation in adult out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Training consisted of 45 minutes of theoretical and practical training in small groups.

Patterns of genetic differentiation across the genome can provide insight into selective forces driving adaptation. We used pooled whole genome sequencing, gene annotation, and environmental covariates to evaluate patterns of genomic differentiation and to investigate mechanisms responsible for divergence among proximate Pacific cod () populations from the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands and more distant Washington Coast cod. Samples were taken from eight spawning locations, three of which were replicated to estimate consistency in allele frequency estimation.

Minding the Gaps in Fish Welfare: The Untapped Potential of Fish Farm Workers.

The welfare of farmed fish is often regarded with less concern than the welfare of other husbandry animals, as fish are not universally classified as sentient beings. In Norway, farmed fish and other husbandry animals are legally protected under the same laws. Additionally, the legislature has defined a number of aquaculture-specific amendments, including mandatory welfare courses for fish farmers who have a key role in securing animal welfare, also with regards to noting welfare challenges in the production process.

Injury Prevention and long-term Outcomes following Trauma-the IPOT project: a protocol for prospective nationwide registry-based studies in Norway.

Introduction: Traumatic injuries constitute a major cause of mortality and morbidity. Still, the public health burden of trauma in Norway has not been characterised using nationwide registry data. More knowledge is warranted on trauma risk factors and the long-term outcomes following trauma.

Challenges Faced by Health Professionals in Obtaining Correct Medication Information in the Absence of a Shared Digital Medication List.

Information about patient medication use is usually registered and stored in different digital systems, making it difficult to share information across health care organisations. The lack of digital systems able to share medication information poses a threat to patient safety and quality of care. We explored the experiences of health professionals with obtaining and exchanging information on patient medication lists in Norwegian primary health care within the context of current digital and non-digital solutions.

Investigating cow-calf contact in cow-driven systems: behaviour of the dairy cow and calf.

Research is needed on how technology can facilitate cow-calf contact (CCC). This research communication describes the behaviour of dairy cow-calf pairs in two cow-driven CCC-systems differing in cows' access to the calves through computer-controlled access gates (smart gates, SG). Specifically, cow traffic through SG when visiting their calves, allogrooming, suckling and cross-suckling, cows' eating and resting behaviour and finally vocal response to separation were assessed.

Schistosomiasis in Norwegian students after travel to Africa.

Background: Schistosomiasis is a tropical infectious disease in which early diagnosis and treatment can prevent serious illness. This study examined the incidence and diagnosis of schistosomiasis in Norwegian exchange students who had been exposed to freshwater in Africa.

Material And Method: Students (n = 318) from Bergen and Oslo who had travelled to Africa as part of an exchange programme in the period 2003-18, were contacted and included in the study if they had been exposed to freshwater during their stay.
