Vibrational wave packets are created in the lowest triplet state 13Σu+ of K2 and Rb2 residing on the surface of helium nanodroplets, through non-resonant stimulated impulsive Raman scattering induced by a moderately intense near-infrared laser pulse. A delayed, intense 50-fs laser pulse doubly ionizes the alkali dimers via multiphoton absorption and thereby causes them to Coulomb explode into a pair of alkali ions Ak+. From the kinetic energy distribution P(Ekin) of the Ak+ fragment ions, measured at a large number of delays, we determine the time-dependent internuclear distribution P(R, t), which represents the modulus square of the wave packet within the accuracy of the experiment.

The effect of marker types and density on genomic prediction and GWAS of key performance traits in tetraploid potato.

Genomic prediction and genome-wide association studies are becoming widely employed in potato key performance trait QTL identifications and to support potato breeding using genomic selection. Elite cultivars are tetraploid and highly heterozygous but also share many common ancestors and generation-spanning inbreeding events, resulting from the clonal propagation of potatoes through seed potatoes. Consequentially, many SNP markers are not in a 1:1 relationship with a single allele variant but shared over several alleles that might exert varying effects on a given trait.

Purpose: Beetroot is a model crop for studying root competition in intercropping systems because its red-coloured roots facilitate non-destructive visual discrimination with other root systems of intercropped plants. However, beetroot also has white roots, which could alter how root competition is interpreted. Here we investigated the quantity of white versus red roots in beetroot to quantify the effect of this phenomenon.

The time-dependent degree of alignment measured, exhibits a periodic, gradually decreasing structure that deviates qualitatively from that expected for gas-phase dimers.

Background And Purpose: A better understanding of factors that influence functioning may improve the identification of patients with distal radius fractures (DRFs) who need hand therapy. The purpose of this scoping review was to provide a comprehensive overview of factors that have been evaluated for their influence on hand functioning following volar plate fixation of DRFs.

Impact of age-dependent red blood cell parameters on α-globin gene genotyping in children.

When screening for α-thalassemia in children, adult cut-offs for mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) are generally applied to guide genetic evaluation. However, the normal ranges for MCV and MCH are lower in children than in adults, so we hypothesized that using age-matched cut-offs could lead to a more rational diagnostic strategy. The aim of this study was to evaluate if age-matched cut-offs could be applied advantageously.

Surviving rectal cancer at the cost of a colostomy: global survey of long-term health-related quality of life in 10 countries.

Background: Colorectal cancer management may require an ostomy formation; however, a stoma may negatively impact health-related quality of life (HRQoL). This study aimed to compare generic and stoma-specific HRQoL in patients with a permanent colostomy after rectal cancer across different countries.

Method: A cross-sectional cohorts of patients with a colostomy after rectal cancer in Denmark, Sweden, Spain, the Netherlands, China, Portugal, Australia, Lithuania, Egypt, and Israel were invited to complete questionnaires regarding demographic and socioeconomic factors along with the Colostomy Impact (CI) score, European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Questionnaire (QLQ-C30) and five anchor questions assessing colostomy impact on HRQoL.

Introduction: Most patients treated with a volar locking plate for a distal radius fracture recover within months after surgery; however, a subgroup of patients experience complications and slow recovery. A variety of demographic, peri-, and postoperative factors may influence self-perceived functioning.

Persistence of protective anti-poliovirus antibody levels in 4-year-old children previously primed with Picovax®, a trivalent, aluminium-adjuvanted reduced dose inactivated polio vaccine.

Background: To meet the demand for effective and affordable inactivated polio vaccines (IPVs), a reduced dose, aluminium hydroxide (Al(OH))-adjuvanted IPV vaccine was developed (IPV-Al, Picovax®) and evaluated in clinical trials. The present trial is an extension of two previous trials (a primary and a booster trial). The aim was to evaluate the persistence of seroprotective antibodies (poliovirus type-specific antibody titre ≥ 8) in 4-year-old children who previously received IPV-Al as primary and booster vaccine doses and to determine the potential booster response and safety profile of an additional dose of IPV-Al.
