New therapies for the treatment of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.

Purpose: This review of chronic heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), including new and emerging evidence for treatment of patients with this condition, is intended to offer data supporting the use of specific agents for this patient population.

Summary: Chronic heart failure is a major health concern affecting millions of Americans annually and remains a significant burden on the healthcare system. Heart failure is divided into categories based on left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF).

Implementation of a Pharmacist-Led Culture and Susceptibility Review System in Urgent Care and Outpatient Settings.

Background: Increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistance is an urgent public health threat. The purpose of this project is to implement a pharmacist-managed culture review service to decrease and prevent inappropriate use of antibiotics. This service will intervene in cases of mismatched antibiotic-bacteria combinations to decrease health care provider (HCP) and nursing interruptions, improve patient outcomes, and enhance prescribing practices to reduce occurrence of antibiotic resistance.

Expansion of a postgraduate year 2 ambulatory care pharmacy residency program utilizing Medicare annual wellness visits within primary care.

Background: Funding for pharmacy residency programs is traditionally allocated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. In 2003, funding for postgraduate year 2 (PGY-2) was retracted. PGY-2 sites must develop additional funding methods to facilitate program expansion.
