Background: Peristomal hyperhidrosis can interfere with pouch adherence, resulting in pouch leakage and peristomal skin damage.
Case: A patient with autonomic dysregulation resulting in excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) experienced difficulty with adherence of her ileostomy appliance. Two hundred units of botulinum toxin A (BTX-A) were injected in the dermis of the surrounding skin in order to improve adherence of her pouching system and alleviate moisture of her peristomal skin.
Background: Portomesenteric venous thrombosis (PMVT) is an uncommon complication of abdominal surgery. The objective of this study was to assess PMVT risk factor profiles and patient outcomes after colorectal surgery.

Thirty-eight Long-Evans rats were divided into five groups: ovariectomized females, non-ovariectomized females, ovariectomized females with estrogen replacement (10 microg 17beta-estradiol in 100 microl sesame oil), males given exogenous estrogen and males receiving no estrogen. Using stereotaxic surgery, a cannula was placed in the lateral ventricle for convulsant agent administration (20 microg of NMDA), while an electrode was placed into the hippocampus for seizure recording.
