A Clinico-mycological, Antifungal Drug Sensitivity and Therapeutic Study of Extensive Dermatophytosis in Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Background: In India, an increased prevalence of chronic, recurrent, and recalcitrant dermatophytosis is being observed. The present study assesses the clinico-mycological profile, antifungal drug sensitivity and therapeutic efficacy of various systemic antifungal drug regimens, in extensive dermatophytosis patients of coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Materials And Methods: One hundred and fifty clinically diagnosed cases of extensive dermatophytosis affecting more than one body region were enrolled.

Metabolic risk factors in first acute coronary syndrome (MERIFACS) Study.

Objectives: In acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients the focus is on major conventional risk factors - CRF [diabetes, hypertension, elevated low-density cholesterol (LDL-C) and smoking] whereas others - specific metabolic risk factors - MRF [high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), body-mass index (BMI), waist-hip ratio (WHR), and triglycerides, and HbA1c get less attention.

Methods: This is a prospective case-control observational study from 15 tertiary care hospitals in India. CRF and MRF in patients presenting with first incidence of ACS (n = 2153) were compared with matched controls (n = 1210).

One-pot hydrothermal preparation and defect-enhanced photocatalytic activity of Bi-doped CdWO nanostructures.

In the field of photocatalysis, the suppression of electron-hole recombination through various defects has been an emerging trend to enhance photocatalytic activity. The separation efficiency of electron-hole recombination of well-explored wolframite structured monoclinic CdWO, prepared using the one-pot hydrothermal method, was further improved by Bi doping in CdWO. Studies using the partial density of states illustrated that Bi 6s and 6p orbitals altered the electronic band structure to the extent of lowering the band gap, resulting in more photon absorption.

A Feasibility Study of Stereotactic Radiosurgery/Stereotactic body Radiotherapy/Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy Practice using TomoEDGE in Helical TomoTherapy for Lung, Liver, and Spine Targets.

The primary purpose of the study is to evaluate the implementation of Helical TomoTherapy (HT) for eligible stereotactic radiosurgery/stereotactic body radiotherapy/stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SRS/SBRT/SABR) cases using TomoEDGE option. The study focuses on reduction of treatment time without compromise in plan quality using TomoEDGE. It is a mode in HT that uses a dynamic opening of the jaws during treatment delivery to reduce the dose penumbra which otherwise is not possible with fixed jaws option.

Diagnosis of pseudomyogenic hemangioendothelioma of scapula on limited biopsy: A rare and challenging entity.

Pseudomyogenic hemangioendothelioma (PHE) is a soft-tissue tumor of intermediate malignant potential, recognized as a separate entity in the WHO (World Health Organization) classification of tumors of soft tissue and bone, in 2013. This is a case report of a 33-year-old man with intraosseous scapular PHE reported on small biopsy and immunohistochemistry. The patient presented with local recurrence and metastases even after wide local excision and adjuvant radiotherapy after 14 months.

Total body irradiation of bone marrow transplant using helical TomoTherapy with a focus on the quality of dose contribution at junction target volumes.

Purpose: Total body irradiation (TBI) can be safely delivered on TomoTherapy (Accuray, Sunnyvale, CA, USA) in both pediatric and adult patients with proper imaging and planning despite the length constraint of 135 cm. To overcome this limitation, two CT (Computed Tomography) scans (CT1& CT2) are taken in patients above 135 cm in height. Adequate junction dose coverage is important in TBI.

Bacterial blight (BB) and fungal blast diseases are the major biotic constraints that limit rice productivity. To sustain yield improvement in rice, it is necessary to developed yield potential of the rice varieties by incorporation of biotic stress resistance genes. Tellahamsa is a well-adapted popular high yielding rice variety in Telangana state, India.

Outcomes of freehand interstitial brachytherapy in advanced gynecologic malignancies.

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to present the first results of freehand interstitial brachytherapy (ISBT) used to treat patients with carcinoma of the cervix and the vagina.

Methods And Materials: Patients diagnosed with carcinoma of the cervix or carcinoma of the vagina who were not suitable for intracavitary brachytherapy were treated with freehand ISBT. The implant was performed transperineally using C arm or transrectal ultrasound guidance.

In Situ FTIR Spectroscopic Monitoring of the Formation of the Arene Diazonium Salts and its Applications to the Heck-Matsuda Reaction.

This study depicts the use of a fiber-optic coupled Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy-attenuated total reflection (FTIR-ATR) probe for the in-depth study of arene diazonium salt formation and their utilization in the Heck-Matsuda reaction. The combination of these chemical reactions and in situ IR spectroscopy enabled us to recognize the optimum parameters for arene diazonium salt formation and to track the concentrations of reactants, products and intermediates under actual reaction conditions without time consuming HPLC analysis and the necessity of collecting the sample amid the reaction. Overall advantages of the proposed methodology include precise reaction times as well as identification of keto enol tautomerization in allylic alcohols supporting the 'path a' elimination mechanism in the Heck-Matsuda reaction.

Evaluation and Validation of IBA I'MatriXX Array for Patient-Specific Quality Assurance of TomoTherapy.

TomoTherapy is a modern radiation treatment technique in which intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is delivered in helical fashion. A two-dimensional (2D) array which has been existing for IMRT patient-specific quality assurance (PSQA) verifications for many years is I'MatriXX. Our objectives were to validate this I'MatriXX and to evaluate it for different patient sites and fractionation schedules of TomoTherapy treatment.

Comorbidities in Lichen Planus: A Case-control Study in Indian Patients.

Background: Many previous studies have observed an association of lichen planus (LP) with one or two comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus and thyroid dysfunction. This study was undertaken to determine the association of LP with common comorbidities including diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, thyroid dysfunction, and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection.

Materials And Methods: The study included 75 patients with clinical diagnosis of LP and 75 age- and sex-matched controls.

A J- or U-shaped relationship has been suggested between blood pressure (BP) and clinical outcomes in different studies. However, there is little information about the significance of BP on the outcomes of patients with coronary artery disease and left ventricular dysfunction.

Short-term Outcomes in Patients with Carcinoma of the Esophagus and Gastroesophageal Junction Receiving Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy or Chemoradiation before Surgery. A Prospective Study.

Background: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) and neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NACRT) have been demonstrated to improve survival compared to surgery alone in esophageal carcinoma, but the evidence is scarce on which of these therapies is more beneficial, particularly with regard to resectability rates, postoperative morbidity and mortality, and histological responses.

Objective: This study compares the resectability, pathological response rates, and short-term surgical outcomes in patients with carcinoma of the esophagus or gastroesophageal junction receiving NACT or NACRT prior to surgery.

Methods: Patients with resectable carcinoma of the esophagus or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and adenosquamous histologies were enrolled in this well-matched prospective non-randomized study.

Psychosocial factors associated with reverse smoking: A qualitative research.

Objectives: Reverse smoking is a peculiar form of smoking in which the smoker puts the lit end of the cigarette into the mouth and then inhales the smoke. There may be many predisposing factors that influence an individual to cultivate this habit, of which psychosocial habits could be the predominating factor. Hence, the present study was undertaken to evaluate the psychosocial factors that influence an individual to undertake this peculiar habit of reverse smoking.

White collar rhabdomyolysis with acute kidney injury.

Rhabdomyolysis is a clinical syndrome resulting from the disintegration of muscle cell and spillage of toxic intracellular contents into circulation. Strenuous, unaccustomed exercise leads to exertional rhabdomyolysis and cause AKI. We report a 26-year-old female who developed white collar rhabdomyolysis with AKI after performing sit-ups (Super Yoga Brain) for 108 times in temple.

Genetic characterization and population structure of Indian rice cultivars and wild genotypes using core set markers.

Genetic diversity among 23 rice genotypes including wild species and cultivars of indica, japonica, aus and aromatic type was investigated using 165 genomewide core set microsatellite (SSR) markers. How much does a verbal autopsy based mortality surveillance system cost in rural India?

Objective: This paper aims to determine the cost of establishing and sustaining a verbal-autopsy based mortality surveillance system in rural India.

Materials And Methods: Deaths occurring in 45 villages (population 185,629) were documented over a 4-year period from 2003-2007 by 45 non-physician healthcare workers (NPHWs) trained in data collection using a verbal autopsy tool. Causes of death were assigned by 2 physicians for the first year and by one physician for the subsequent years.
