Background/objectives: The present study investigates the reasons for better recognition of disyllabic words in Malayalam among individuals with hearing loss. This research was conducted in three experiments. Experiment 1 measured the psychometric properties (slope, intercept, and maximum scores) of disyllabic wordlists.

Herein we describe patterning and correlates of attachment in an Australian sample of adolescent Tamil refugees. Sixty-eight adolescents, aged 10-18, were assessed for trauma exposure, mental health problems and pattern of attachment.

This study aimed to describe the clinical presentation and therapeutic course of a trained Carnatic singer with perceptually clinically normal voice who presented with singing difficulties. The participant of the study was a 25-year-old male individual who reported to the speech and language diagnostics unit with complaints of reduced vocal range for singing and strained voice while singing. After the routine voice evaluations, the subject was allotted Resonant Voice Therapy.

A virtually imaged phased array (VIPA) replaces the Fabry-Perot etalon conventionally used in interferometric Rayleigh scattering, allowing the extension of the technique from 0D (point or multi-point) to 1D. The Rayleigh-Brillouin spectrum is a function of pressure and temperature and can be used for temperature diagnostics in isobaric flows.

In addition, we disclose the first examples of this electrocyclization manifold conducted under catalytic conditions. Previously, electrocyclization of heptatrienyl systems required formation of anions with a strong base, resulting in limited functional group compatibility.

It typically presents between 50-60 years of age and usually with bilateral disease. Angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia (ALHE) remains the main differential diagnosis, although histological analysis is essential in differentiating from other similarly presenting pathologies.

PRAME (preferentially expressed antigen in melanoma) has been studied in the various neoplasms as proposed as diagnostic and therapeutic markers. PRAME is expressed in normal sebaceous units and in some sebaceous lesions; however, its utility in sebaceous carcinoma diagnosis has not yet been extensively investigated.

The process involves soft-dearomatization of pyridines to the corresponding alkylidene dihydropyridines and treatment with Selectfluor. The reaction tolerates a broad range of functional groups, including those bearing acidic and weak C-H bonds.

The fourth "WHO Classification of Eye Tumors" (WHO-EYE04) proposed a C-MIL classification, capturing the progression of noninvasive neoplastic melanocytes from low- to high-grade lesions, onto melanoma in situ (MIS), and then to invasive melanoma. This proposal was revised to the WHO-EYE05 C-MIL system, which simplified the high-grade C-MIL, whereby MIS was subsumed into high-grade C-MIL.

During the COVID-19 pandemic we drew on data from wave-4 of the WATCH cohort study, collected between October 2019 and June 2021. We conducted a cross-sectional analysis to compare the prevalence of common mental disorders (CMDs) from the sample of 650 consecutively recruited women, 339 (52.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAim: This study was aimed at evaluating the auditory perceptual judgments of vocal resonance by professional singers, speech-language pathologists (SLP) with singing training, and SLPs without singing training.
Objectives: (a) To examine the auditory-perceptual judgments of the phonation samples of professional singers obtained before and after resonant voice therapy (RVT) by professional singers, SLPs with singing training, and SLPs without singing training. (b) To compare the agreement between the auditory-perceptual judgments of the phonation samples obtained before and after RVT by professional singers, SLPs with singing training, and SLPs without singing training METHOD: Three groups of judges formed the participants of the study: group A (professional singers), group B (SLPs with singing training), and group C (SLPs without singing training).
Purpose: To report a previously unrecognized choroidal melanoma clinical feature termed tumor-associated retinal pigmentation (TARP) and determine any correlation with tumor biology.
Design: Imaging and histologic analysis of a retrospective cohort of patients.
Participants: Patients with choroidal melanoma identified as having TARP on funduscopy at the Liverpool Ocular Oncology Centre (LOOC), United Kingdom, from January 2020 through January 2023.
Psychoacoustic and speech perception measures were compared for a group who were exposed to noise regularly through listening to music via personal music players (PMP) and a control group without such exposure. Lifetime noise exposure, quantified using the NESI questionnaire, averaged ten times higher for the exposed group than for the control group. Audiometric thresholds were similar for the two groups over the conventional frequency range up to 8 kHz, but for higher frequencies, the exposed group had higher thresholds than the control group.

This is a randomised, single-blinded observational prospective study. Patients undergoing elective cataract surgery using peribulbar anaesthesia over consecutive cataract lists were selected for this trial.

It is presumed that similar crossed dominance could exist for non-speech stimuli too. Hence, this is an attempt to develop and validate the dichotic non-speech test using environmental stimuli and explore the effect of focused attention on this test.

This study examined the impact of prolonged visa insecurity on child mental health, by comparing two cohorts of refugee children entering Australia between 2010 and 2013, distinguished by visa security.
Methods: The insecure visa sample comprised children from Tamil asylum-seeking families, while the secure visa sample was drawn from refugee families participating in the multi-ethnic 'Building a New Life in Australia' cohort study.
Temporal variations in the chemistry of infiltrating water into the subsurface are known to cause remobilization of colloids from the grain surfaces, thereby increasing the travel distance of the colloidal contaminants. Hence, it is essential to thoroughly understand the transport, deposition, and release mechanisms of colloids in the subsurface, through laboratory experiments and modeling. There are only a few experiments in which the chemistry of inflow water is changed rapidly during colloid transport.
