Periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs) are a dangerous complication of joint replacement surgeries which have become much more common in recent years (mostly hip and knee replacement surgeries). Such a condition can lead to many health issues and often requires reoperation. Staphylococci is a bacterial group most common in terms of the pathogens causing PJIs.

The survivorship of rTKA is significantly lower than that of primary total knee arthroplasty, resulting in an increasing incidence of repeat rTKA. These cases present multifactorial challenges including the skin and soft-tissue envelopes, bone loss, ligamentous compromise, and often a history of periprosthetic joint infection.

Objectives were to evaluate reliability of a ball-tipped probe for detection of breached versus non-breached pedicle drill tracts in a canine large breed cadaveric model. CT scans obtained from T6 to sacrum.

However, disease characteristics and patient-specific risk factors of PTP after combined R(C)T + ICI are less understood. Given that RT-triggered PTP is strongly dependent on the volume and dose of RT [1], driven by inflammatory mechanisms, we hypothesize that combination therapy of R(C)T with ICI influences the dose-volume-effect correlation for PTP.

Objective: To examine associations between the characteristics of RDNs and their attitudes of team-based care (TBC).
Design: A cross-sectional electronic Qualtrics survey encompassing demographic questions, the Attitudes Toward Interdisciplinary Health Care Teams (ATIHCT) scale, and additional interprofessional-related items was distributed to RDNs during January 2020.

Introduction: Femoral shaft nonunion negatively affects patient quality of life. Although multiple risk factors have been identified for femoral shaft nonunion after intramedullary nail (IMN) fixation, there is no quantitative model for predicting nonunion.
Study Description: The study is a retrospective cohort study of patients with femoral shaft fractures treated at two level one trauma centers who were followed to fracture union or nonunion.
Background: Revision total hip arthroplasty (rTHA) and revision total knee arthroplasty (rTKA) require considerable surgical proficiency, but are frequently delegated to the least experienced surgeons. This study examined the influence of surgeon experience on revision outcomes.
Methods: Prospective data on confirmed aseptic rTHAs (n = 122) and rTKAs (n = 195) performed by 4 fellowship-trained surgeons in the same practice were retrospectively analyzed.
Objective: To evaluate outcomes and complication rate of utilizing a string-of-pearls (SOP) plate augmented with adjunctive fixation in the repair of canine femur fractures.
Methods: Records of canine patients with mid-diaphyseal femoral fractures repaired with the SOP plate and adjunctive fixation were reviewed. Information retrieved from medical records included signalment, patient weight, fracture configuration, repair technique, healing time, and complications based on perioperative radiographic follow-up to clinical union.
Introduction: Surgical glove use may be associated with a decrease in tactile sensitivity, with thicker gloves or double-gloving techniques further altering sensation. This study evaluates digital tactile sensitivity by use of a Grating Orientation Task (GOT) with multiple sterile gloving techniques (no gloves, single standard gloving, double standard gloving, orthopedic gloves, and micro-thickness gloves).
Methods: Each participant performed the GOT at increasing grating widths until correctly noting orientation in ≥8 of 10 trials with multiple glove types or double-gloving technique.
Biofilm formation is a serious problem that relatively often causes complications in orthopedic surgery. Biofilm-forming pathogens invade implanted foreign bodies and surrounding tissues. Such a condition, if not limited at the appropriate time, often requires reoperation.

Context: Culinary medicine (CM) is a growing field of education that aims to bridge the gap between the clinical need for nutritional counseling and the lack of education on the topic. Healthcare professionals can aid in nutrition-related noncommunicable disease (NCD) prevention by improving a patient's dietary behavior. However, the presence of nutrition education in healthcare curricula is lacking.

Research suggests that environmental and social factors affect dietetic interns' diets during their internship, although these factors have not been studied among physician assistant interns. This cross-sectional study utilized an online survey to compare dietetic interns' ( = 81) and physician assistant interns' ( = 79) fruit and vegetable intake, food security, barriers to healthy eating, and empowerment for making healthy dietary choices during an internship.

As loss occurs concurrently with numerous other potentially proepileptogenic changes, however, the impact of interneuron loss in isolation remains unclear. For the present study, we developed an intersectional genetic approach to induce bilateral diphtheria toxin-mediated deletion of Vgat-expressing interneurons from dorsal and ventral hippocampus.

The influence of the combination of both, including dose fractionation schemes on PTP development is still unclear. This study aims to improve the PTP risk estimation after radio(chemo)therapy (R(C)T) for lung cancer with and without ICI by investigation of the impact of dose fractionation on machine learning (ML)-based prediction.

Introduction: Conducting research on human-computer interaction and information retrieval requires unobtrusive observations within existing network architectures.
State Of The Art: Most of the available tools are not suitable to be applied within restricted clinical systems. The specific requirements hinder analysis of the human factors in health sciences.
The popularity of softball is rising among female athletes with more than two million players between the ages of 12 and 18 competing per year. As participation rates increase, the frequency of injuries related to softball is on the rise. Softball injuries can differ from baseball injuries, and only a small amount of current literature focuses exclusively on softball injuries.

We sought to assess the magnitude and role of self-citation in academic neurosurgery.
Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of the citation and self-citation rates of articles published in 2001-2020 in 7 major neurosurgery journals: Acta Neurochirurgica, Journal of Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics, Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine, Neurosurgery, Neurosurgical Review, and World Neurosurgery.
Objective: To compare pin placement accuracy, intraoperative technique deviations, and duration of pin placement for pins placed by free-hand probing (FHP) or 3D-printed drill guide (3DPG) technique.
Sample Population: Four greyhound cadavers.
Methods: Computed tomography (CT) examinations from T6-sacrum were obtained for determination of optimal pin placement and 3DPG creation.
Introduction: Pneumonitis is a relevant side effect after radiotherapy (RT) and immunotherapy with checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). Since the effect is radiation dose dependent, the risk increases for high fractional doses as applied for stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) and might even be enhanced for the combination of SBRT with ICI therapy. Hence, patient individual pre-treatment prediction of post-treatment pneumonitis (PTP) might be able to support clinical decision making.
