This is a case of a perianal basal cell carcinoma, a common skin cancer in an unusual location. Our patient is a 67-year-old male with a perianal lesion. He first noticed this painless lesion 5 years prior to presentation and was having fecal incontinence and weight loss.

Furthermore, there is a lack of available knowledge regarding the proportion of children meeting current dietary recommendations for the consumption of long-chain n-3 PUFA as α-linolenic acid (ALA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)/docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The objective of the present study was to directly quantify the intake of n-3 PUFA in toddlers aged 2 to 3 years and determine if intakes met international recommendations.

The aim of this retrospective study was to compare the ability of second-year (D2) dental students with that of third- and fourth-year (D3-D4) dental students to interpret and identify positional errors in digital PANs obtained from patients with complete edentulism. A total of 169 digital PANs from edentulous patients were assessed by D2 (n=84) and D3-D4 (n=85) dental students at one Canadian dental school.

Purpose: The purpose of this retrospective study was to examine the influence of pretreatment digital panoramic radiographs on the clinical management of patients receiving complete removable dental prostheses.
Material And Methods: The clinical records, including panoramic radiographs, of 169 patients seeking new complete removable dental prostheses over a 6-year period were interpreted independently by both a prosthodontist and an oral and maxillofacial radiologist to identify radiographic findings that influenced clinical patient management.
Background: Parental noncompliance with the American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention immunization schedule is an increasing public health concern. We examined the frequency of requests for vaccine delays and refusals and the impact on US pediatricians' behavior.
Methods: Using national American Academy of Pediatrics Periodic Surveys from 2006 and 2013, we describe pediatrician perceptions of prevalence of (1) vaccine refusals and delays, (2) parental reasons for refusals and/or delays, and (3) physician dismissals.
Background: The ligation of intersphincteric fistula tract (LIFT) procedure for trans-sphincteric fistula-in-ano has been studied with variable success rates compared with initial reports. Failures occur mostly in the intersphincteric wound. Recently, we proposed a modification to LIFT, unroofing the fistula from internal opening to intersphincteric groove, ligating the fistula tract, but preserving the external sphincter.

Our paper describes the collaborative development process and necessary modifications required to apply a physics pedagogical model in a life sciences context. While some approaches were easily adapted, others provided significant challenges.

Strict glycemic control is associated with lower infection rates, decreased length of stay (LOS), and faster recovery. A protocol that standardized preoperative education, testing, and treatment of elevated blood glucose (BG) safely improved perioperative glycemic control.

Materials And Methods: In order to assess current attitudes and practices about this subject, and as a guide to designing a randomized trial to gather evidence in order to support data-driven protocol development, an e-mail survey was sent to the membership of the American Society of Colorectal Surgeons to assess current attitudes and practices pertaining to prevention and management of wound infections.
Introduction: This study evaluated the Los Angeles Unified School District Nutrition Network, a large multicomponent nutrition and physical activity program in an ethnically diverse school district, launched in 2000.
Methods: We calculated descriptive statistics and performed hierarchical logistic regression on school-level demographic and implementation data.
Results: Thirty-six percent of eligible schools participated in 2001, and 79% of participating schools reapplied the following year.
Background: In a previous study, a meningococcal diphtheria toxoid conjugate vaccine (MCV-4) triggered robust bactericidal antibody responses against serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135 in 2- to 10-year-old children. A subset of participants, 2 to 3 years of age at the initial vaccination, was evaluated for persistence of antibody, immune memory, and antibody avidity.
Methods: Participants were healthy children vaccinated 23 to 36 months earlier with MCV-4 (primed) or newly recruited meningococcal vaccine-naive 4-year-olds.

We evaluated 589 eyes using the IntraOptics opacity lensmeter 701. Twenty-one eyes contained poly(methyl methacrylate) intraocular lenses. The patients in the phakic group (578 eyes), who had no ocular pathology other than refractive error or cataracts, averaged 60.

One patient's extensor plantar transiently changed to a flexor plantar reflex after injection, probably due to disproportionate increase in tone of the calf muscles.

The effect of grading the anteriorization of the posterior portion of the inferior oblique muscle tendon fibers, relative to the insertion of the inferior rectus, was assessed for patients with dissociated vertical deviation (DVD). The placement of these fibers was varied dependent on the degree of preoperative DVD. The results from the graded group were compared to a group of patients with DVD that always received the same amount of anteriorization regardless of the degree of preoperative DVD.

Intraocular lenses (IOLs) from six manufacturers were measured on a Terry keratometer and on a calibrated lens bench for lens power. Differences between the two methods appeared when the IOLs were a different refractive index than polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and a shape other than planoconvex. These differences were consistent for ultraviolet absorbing PMMA and for meniscus lenses.

DN-1417 is an analog of thyrotropin-releasing hormone, which has less endocrinologic activity, but more anterior horn cell stimulating effect (with no "autorefractory state"). However, 2 mg DN-1417, IM twice a day for 1 month in an open-label trial, produced no objective improvement of strength in nine patients with ALS.

The inferior loop of a semiflexible, closed-loop anterior chamber intraocular lens in the eye of a 72-year-old female fractured at two sites. The loop was composed of extruded polymethylmethacrylate. The inferotemporal portion of the loop was first noted to be broken 25 months postoperatively, and the fractured nasal portion of the same loop was first observed 55 months after implantation.
