Introduction. Does high-resolution visualization of microcalcifications improve diagnostic reliability? Method. X-rays were taken of mamma specimens with microcalcifications in 32 patients (10 malignant; 22 benign) using conventional radiography (12 Lp/mm) and high-resolution radiography (2000 Lp/mm).

Transient lymphopenia is a hallmark of measles virus (MV)-induced immunosuppression. To address to what extent replenishment of the peripheral lymphocyte compartment from bone marrow (BM) progenitor/stem cells might be affected, we analyzed the interaction of wild-type MV with hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HS/PCs) and stroma cells in vitro. Infection of human CD34(+) HS/PCs or stroma cells with wild-type MV is highly inefficient yet noncytolytic.

Escherichia coli isolates from an immunocompetent woman with a history of repeated amnion infections and spontaneous abortion were characterized. Escherichia coli were isolated from stool, blood and cervix swab samples taken over a 21-month period after the last abortion which followed septicemia during pregnancy. All samples except the last cervix swab contained isolates of serotype O12:K1:H7, which produced adhesins, P fimbriae, type I fimbriae and the iron-chelator aerobactin.

This observation reports a case of susperfetation which occurred in connection with gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT). The macroscopic and histological examination of a spontaneous abortion from a 33-year-old woman (15th week of pregnancy) revealed the existence of two embryos with a monochorionic diamniotic placenta (developmental age approximately 41 days) and two fetuses and a fetal remnant with a trichorionic and triamniotic placenta (developmental age approximately 98 days). The large developmental age difference of embryos and fetuses cannot be explained by retardation, because the embryos showed adequate development with the development of their placenta.

In an open, non-randomized prospective phase-III-study the clinical and endocrine efficacy as well as the safety of leuprorelin acetate depot (Enantone-Gyn Monats-Depot) were investigated. The therapeutic results of 198 patients, gathered from 5 university institutions and two city hospitals, are reported. Endometriosis was classified by the revised American Fertility Society score (r-AFS) before and at the end of treatment.

The aim of this study was to evaluate morphometrically the influence of ovulation-inhibiting doses of indomethacin, an inhibitor of the cyclooxygenase pathway, and esculetin and caffeic acid, inhibitors of the lipoxygenase pathway, on the dilatation of the perifollicular capillary network in the theca interna. The development of the perifollicular capillary network as a function of follicular size and the changes in the vascular lumen were examined by light microscopy on a series of semithin cross sections of rat ovaries. The number of capillaries in the theca interna increased linearly with increasing follicle diameter.

During the past decade, the development of various gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (Gn-RH) agonists, which induce reversible hypo-oestrogenism has opened a new area in the medical management of endometriosis. In an open, multicentre phase III study, the efficacy, tolerance and safety of the Gn-RH agonist leuprorelin acetate were tested. The preliminary results of 104 women treated in seven German centres are presented.

Pre- and postoperative clinical, urodynamic and morphological data from 91 cured and uncured patients with Burch colposuspension and from 54 patients with vaginal repair, were analysed. The results were expected to show possible reasons for the failure of surgery and to demonstrate prognostic criteria for successful surgery. As has been shown repeatedly, urodynamic parameters will improve in patients with colposuspension, whereas a vaginal procedure tends to worsen those parameters.

The published data give a report on systematic examinations on the development of the perifollicular capillary network in the theca interna in rabbit ovaries. The follicle size and the number of capillaries were investigated by means of morphometric methods. The extent of proliferation of granulosa and endothelial cells was studied autoradiographically by determining the labelling index (LI).

Urodynamic and morphologic findings in 82 patients with stress urinary incontinence were analysed. All patients had undergone vaginal respectively abdominal hysterectomy with anterior colporrhaphy respectively urethrovesicopexy. Whereas in the abdominal group the urodynamic and morphologic findings improved significantly, this did not occur in the vaginal group (Colp.

Previous studies have demonstrated the involvement of eicosanoids (prostaglandins and hydroxyperoxides, including leukotrienes) in ovulation in several mammalian species. In this study, the role played by eicosanoids in the vascular changes that occur in the immediate preovulatory period after human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) stimulation was examined in the rat. Changes in the ovarian uptake of two iodinated proteins were examined 30 minutes after i.

We report a case of non-ruptured tubal pregnancy at 38 weeks of pregnancy with the survival of mother and baby. Following salpingotomy a 1860 gr and 43 cm normal healthy male infant was delivered. The fallopian tube with placental tissue was removed by salpingectomy.

The increasing morbidity rate of endometrial carcinoma has prompted the development of methods of examination suitable for the detection of asymptomatic carcinoma of the endometrium. Commercially available instruments for collection of specimens from the uterine cavity employ washing, aspiration or curettage techniques. Under clinical testing conditions, these instruments have been shown to have a high cytomorphological accuracy, namely 80%.

In 60 female rats we investigated intraperitoneal adhesion and tissue reaction of Vicryl, PDS, Ethilon und Prolene depending on the thickness of the thread (6-0 versus 9-0) and the length of the ends of the threads cut off in the region of the knot. The results did not show any significant difference in respect of degree of adhesion and tissue reaction, for the four suturing materials tested in this study. It was also not possible to detect any definite influence of the thread strength (6-0 versus 9-0) on the adhesion and tissue reaction.

The growth of tertiary follicles, i.e., the proliferation of cells in the stratum granulosum and in the capillary network of the theca interna, after injection of ovulation-inducing human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), was investigated in the rabbit by means of autoradiographic and morphometric methods.

Report on a 33 years old para 4, who developed invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix three years after cryosurgery for a large ectopy of the ectocervix. The carcinoma developed under an intact layer of normal superficial epithelium. The pap smears were negative at yearly intervals until a positive smear was obtained from a small iodinenegative area.
