[The treatment of infected diaphyseal femoral defects by lengthening one of the bone fragments by Ilizarov].

We analyzed 30 patients with infected diaphyseal defect of femur, which have been treated by lengthening one of the bone fragments with Ilizarov apparatus. The mean length of the bone defect was 6 cm. Substitution of the defect, bone healing and elimination of the infection was achieved in 27 patients.

[Ilizarov reconstruction of the distal radius after resection of a giant-cell tumor: a case report].

We present a case of Ilizarov reconstruction after en bloc resection of the distal radius. An 8-cm resection was required to remove a giant-cell tumor. Reconstruction was based on the ascension technique using an Ilizarov external fixator after corticotomy of the proximal fragment of the radius.

[Treatment of gigantocellular tumor of the tibia metaphysis by means of the Ilizarov method--a case study].

The authors show a 36-year old female patient with a gigantocellular tumor of the distal metaphysis of the left tibia (stage III by Campanacci). A 7.6 cm long distal articular defect of the tibia has been formed by radical segmentary resection.

[The treatment of "critical ischemia" of the limbs in endarteritis obliterans by thickening of the tibial bone].

The autors report their experience in the treatment of the "critical ischemia" in 8 patients with arterial occlusion of the lower limbs in endarteritis obliterans. All patients were treated by thickening of the tibia using the Ilizarov apparatus for distraction osteosynthesis. In all cases the operative treatment ensured lowering of the amputation level, forming of the functional stump and long-lasting remission of the illness.

[Paralytic hip dislocation in cerebral palsy--soft tissue surgical procedures].

Results of a combination of soft tissue procedures performed for the first time in treating paralytic dislocation of the hip in cerebral palsy are presented. All hip flexors and adductors release, along with possible transposition or elongation of knee flexors on the side of the dislocation (if knee contracture exceeded 20) were peformed. 75 hips in 57 patients were operated on.

[Use of Ilizarov mini-fixator in the treatment of congenital brachymetatarsia].

Purpose Of The Study: The main cause of short metatarsal bones (commonly the fourth metatarsal) is premature closure of the distal epiphyseal plate. We report results of treatment of brachymetatarsia using the Ilizarov mini-fixator.

Material And Methods: This study included 10 patients (19 feet) with a shortened fourth (18 feet) and third metatarsal bone.

[Bilateral total hip prosthesis replacement in a single procedure].

This paper is a case report of a patient with bilateral hip dysplasia, bilateral secondary degenerative changes, adduction contracture and serious walking difficulties. The patient has undergone one-stage bilateral hip replacement. This procedure is advantageous because of fast recovery, fewer complications and rehabilitation easier than in the routine operation of two-stage bilateral total hip replacement.
