An unusual case of the signet ring cell variant of adenocarcinoma of the bladder occurred in which the tumor extensively infiltrated the bladder wall and perivesical fascia. The pattern of infiltration was analogous to that seen in the linitis plastica variant of gastric carcinoma. Cystoscopic and roentgenographic studies failed to reveal a grossly evident lesion.

Normal values for 17-ketosteroids, 17-hydroxycorticosteroids, and plasma cortisol eliminated the adrenal as the source of the excess androgen as well as Cushing syndrome. Increased plasma testosterone and androstenedione levels in the peripheral blood as well as in the right ovarian vein sampling implicated the right ovary, which revealed a lipid cell tumor (0.

With the waning of the last major world glaciation and resultant sea level rise and fluctuation, a marine embayment protruded nearly 10 kilometers south of the site of Troy at Hisarlik in the Troad of northwest Turkey. As the sea approached its present level approximately 6000 years ago, fluvial and marine deposition caused a northerly migration of the delta and floodplain of the Scamander and Simois Rivers past the site of Troy toward the present-day coast about 6 kilometers north of the site.

If surgery is required, several procedures currently used are effective; however, the authors believe crescentic osteotomy to be the procedure of choice for several reasons--it is less traumatic, less destructive to the joint, does not require internal fixation, is less demanding technically, and requires a shorter postoperative period of convalescence. Although the most common deformity of the fifth ray is in the sagittal plane, it is possible to correct various positional deformities by altering the plane of osteotomy.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA kidney with triple renal arteries was removed from an HLA identical donor and transplanted to her brother using the donor hypogastric artery as an autogenous graft. The kidney was preserved by hypothermic, hyperkalemic, hyperosmolar washout solution while the three separate renal artery-hypogastric artery autograft anastomoses were being performed in an ex vivo position. Subsequently, the end to side autogenous hypogastric artery patch graft to external iliac artery anastomosis was completed.

The diagnostic value of creatine kinase (CK) and lactate dehydrogenase isoenzymes was investigated in a prospective study of 201 patients with suspected acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The isoenzymes were analyzed with a column chromatographic method. The patients' final diagnoses were made according to the WHO criteria without knowledge of the isoenzyme results.

However, most still ignore the subsurface dimension of coastal and other environments and hence fail to fully explain coastal and alluvial-colluvial processes, rates of change of geomorphology, and the effects of coastal change on humans. In this article subsurface geological analyses have been used to elucidate paleogeographic coastal settings of major archaeological sites around the Aegean Sea.

It has proved to be useful in implant surgery and total joint replacement, in malignant neoplastic fractures, and in the fixation of pins and screws in bone. However, problems such as recurring infections, thermal necrosis of tissue, depression of myocardial and hepatic function, and leakage of monomer may occur with the use of methylmethacrylate.
