Introduction: This study evaluated patient-reported outcome measures and reinjury rates in higher-risk adolescents and young adults aged 14-25 years old following Anterior Cruciate Ligament reconstruction using autograft with suture tape augmentation (SA ACLR).

Materials And Methods: We performed a retrospective case series of patients aged 14-25 who underwent SA ACLR by a single surgeon between 2016 and 2020. After a minimum of 2 years of follow-up, data was collected on reinjury and patient reported outcome measures, including Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), Marx Activity Rating Scale (MARS), Single Assessment Numeric Evaluation (SANE), and Visual Analog Pain Scale (VAPS).

Impurity-induced defects play a crucial role for the properties of crystals, but little is known about impurities with anisotropic shape. Here, we study how colloidal dumbbells distort and interact with a hexagonal crystal of charged colloidal spheres at a fluid interface. We find that subtle differences in the dumbbell length determine whether it induces a local distortion of the lattice or traps a dislocation, and determine how the dumbbell moves inside the repulsive hexagonal lattice.

Importance: The most frequent presenting symptom for patients with human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) is a lateral neck mass. Circulating tumor tissue-modified viral (TTMV)-HPV DNA is a unique biomarker produced by the fragmentation of HPV DNA during the degradation of HPV-associated tumors, and its detection and quantitation are currently being used as an adjunct to imaging in monitoring for disease recurrence and may have utility for diagnosis.

Cluster formation of microscopic swimmers is key to the formation of biofilms and colonies, efficient motion and nutrient uptake, but, in the absence of other interactions, requires high swimmer concentrations to occur. Here we experimentally and numerically show that cluster formation can be dramatically enhanced by an anisotropic swimmer shape. We analyze a class of model microswimmers with a shape that can be continuously tuned from spherical to bent and straight rods.

Active colloidal microswimmers serve as archetypical active fluid systems, and as models for biological swimmers. Here, by studying in detail their velocity traces, we find robust power-law intermittency with system-dependent exponential cut off. We model the intermittent motion by an interplay of the field gradient-dependent active force, which depends on a fluid gradient and is reduced when the swimmer moves, and the locally fluctuating hydrodynamic drag, that is set by the wetting properties of the substrate.

Floppy microscale spring networks are widely studied in theory and simulations, but no well-controlled experimental system currently exists. Here, we show that square lattices consisting of colloid-supported lipid bilayers functionalized with DNA linkers act as microscale floppy spring networks. We extract their normal modes by inverting the particle displacement correlation matrix, showing the emergence of a spectrum of soft modes with low effective stiffness in addition to stiff modes that derive from linker interactions.

Idiopathic scoliosis is a complex three-dimensional deformity of the spine with anterior overgrowth (hypokyphosis), coronal curvature, and axial rotation. Scoliosis treatment in the skeletally immature spine is therapeutically challenging because of growth and was commonly limited to observation, bracing treatment, or fusion. The impact of space radiation and microgravity on DNA damage responses has been discussed controversially, largely due to the variety of model systems engaged. Here, we performed side-by-side analyses of human hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPC) and peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) cultivated in a 2D clinostat to simulate microgravity before, during and after photon and particle irradiation. We demonstrate that simulated microgravity (SMG) accelerates the early phase of non-homologous end joining (NHEJ)-mediated repair of simple, X-ray-induced DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) in PBL, while repair kinetics in HSPC remained unaltered.
