Background: Two recent genome-wide association studies (GWASs) identified five single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs; rs965513, rs944289, rs966423, rs2439302, and rs116909374) associated with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). Each variant showed highly significant but moderate to low disease risk. Here we assessed the cumulative risk and predictive value of the five SNPs.

Background: Multidrug chemotherapy increases the efficacy of the treatment, but at the same time rises its cardiotoxicity. The majority of cardiac complications are caused by anthracyclines.Radiation therapy may intensify cardiotoxicity.

Background: Positron emission tomography (PET) combined with computer tomography (CT) using (68)Ga-DOTATATE is a promising method for the evaluation of patients with recognised or suspected neuroendocrine tumours (NET). The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic value of (68)Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT in the visualisation of the expression of somatostatin receptors (SSTR) and identification of new lesions.

Material And Methods: Between December 2009 and January 2011 ninety-seven patients with confirmed (88 cases) or suspected (9 cases) NET underwent (68)Ga DOTATATE PET/CT.

Objective: The purpose of the study was to determine the feasibility and accuracy of the sentinel lymph node (SLN) identification in vulvar carcinoma patients.

Methods: Sixty-two patients with clinical early stage vulvar cancer underwent SLN detection procedure, followed by a complete inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy. The SLN was identified intraoperatively using lymphoscintigraphy with technetium-99m as well as patent blue V staining.

We aimed to investigate the occurrence and types of pathogenic mutations in the RET gene in patients with MTC of the Central Poland population and in their relatives. DNA was extracted from the peripheral blood lymphocytes of a total of 330 persons, including 235 MTC patients and 95 of their unaffected kindred's. Exons 10, 11, 13, 14, 15 and 16 of the RET gene were amplified by PCR and sequenced.

Bone scan remains the most frequently requested investigation in any nuclear medicine department. The main reason for this is the exquisite sensivity of the bone scan for lesion detection, combined with clear visualisation of the whole skeleton. The isotope bone scan is now generally accepted as initial investigation of choice in the search for bone metastases from most tumours.

Thyroglossal duct remnants (TGDR), most often cysts, are the most common type of developmental abnormalities of the thyroid gland. In about 1 to 2% of TGDR neoplastic transformation occurs. Papillary carcinoma of the thyroid may be encountered in over 90% of such cases.

Introduction: Differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) in children presents different biological behavior in comparison to adults. Authors presents preliminary results of multicenter analysis concerning incidence, diagnostics and treatment of DTC in children.

Material And Methods: The study is a retrospective analysis of 107 pediatric patients from 14 academic centers based on the data from 2000 to 2005 obtained by questionnaire in hospitals involved in the treatment of DTC in children.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to analyse the distribution and frequency of mutations and their correlations with clinical phenotypes of patients with MTC, to reveal the differences between sporadic and familial type of MTC, and to describe the phenotypes of patients.

Materials And Methods: 212 patients with medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) were treated in Cancer Centre in Warsaw between 1997 and 2005. In most patients, DNA isolated from peripheral blood leukocytes was tested for RET gene mutations by sequencing and accordingly MTC form was assessed.

Single photon emission tomography (SPECT) permits the assessment of the decrease of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF). The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between the different types of dementia (Alzheimer's disease (AD), vascular dementia (VaD) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD)) and the rCBF in the SPECT examination. In patients with AD, the SPECT examination showed hypoperfusion in temporoparietal regions, contrary to patients with frontotemporal dementia, where hypoperfusion was limited to the frontal area, and compared to patients with VaD, where "patchy" rCBF changes were observed in different regions.

Unlabelled: Technetium 99mTc(TF), non-specific tumor-searching tracer was evaluated for its ability to detect distant metastases of differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) and its reliability in the follow-up of DTC. Whole body scintigraphy (wbs) was performed 20-30 min after intravenous injection of 740 MBq 99mTc tetrofosmin by means of a dual-head gamma-camera (followed by spot images if needed) in 61 patients (pts) with DTC; 52 pts with distant metastases in 131I whole body scintigraphy (34) or in other methods (x-ray, CT, ultrasound) (7) or with negative 131I whole body scan and elevated thyroglobulin (11). In the group of 52 pts with signs of neoplasm dissemination, 36 showed positive TF whole body scan (69%), 16 (31%) pts were TF-negative.

Between Nov. 1981 and Nov. 1987 103 patients preselected for chemotherapy combined with surgery, therefore with local extension within homolateral mediastinal lymph nodes, with no signs of remote metastases, PS greater than or equal to 70, with no contraindication for resectional surgery including pneumonectomy, no diabetes, no prior treatment underwent first staging.

The usefulness of examination of lymphatic nodes with Technetium labelled microcolloid for assessment of lymphatic nodes in patients with non Hodgkin's lymphomas and Hodgkin's disease is discussed. Examination has been applied in 60 cases. The criteria of performance of the examinations in physiologic and pathologic conditions are described, together with comparison with other methods of examination.

Determination of neoplastic biological markers has been done in 709 patients including determination of AFP in 142, HCG in 324 and SP1 in 243 cases. Among 142 patients in whom AFP has been determined in 2 cases only (1.4%) the elevated level has been present.

Serum levels of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), gastrointestinal cancer-associated antigen (GICA or CA 19-9), and alphafetoprotein (AFP) were concurrently determined in patients with carcinoma of the stomach: in 84 preoperatively, and in 67 serially postoperatively. Before surgery, serum CEA gave information about the tumor load analogous to serum GICA in 69% of the patients: true-positive in 25% and false-negative in 43%; less information in 18% and more in 14%. The sensitivity of the test tended to be better in the more advanced stages, and was higher for CEA with GICA than for CEA alone or GICA alone.

Serum levels of gastrointestinal cancer antigen (GICA) and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) were determined in 167 patients with colorectal carcinoma. Eighty-eight patients were studied preoperatively, and 79 postoperatively, before, at the time of, and after the diagnosis of relapse. The authors aimed to assess how often the GICA test failed, i.
