After a brief discussion of the problem of idiopathic sensorineural hearing loss and perilymphatic fistulas of the labyrinth windows, audiometric tests are identified that are informative for the preoperative diagnosis of the latter. Taking into account the own results of surgical treatment, attention is drawn to the feasibility of a wider use of exploratory tympanotomy in cases of suspected occurrence of perilymphatic fistulas of the labyrinth windows.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to assess the effectiveness of various audiological and vestibulometric tests for diagnosing non-inflammatory perilymphatic fistulas of the labyrinth windows (PFOLW).
  • It involved analyzing data from 124 patients with different inner and middle ear issues and evaluating the sensitivity, specificity, and predictive value of several diagnostic tests.
  • Results indicated that while no single test was perfect, a combination of specific tests could significantly enhance diagnostic accuracy, achieving a positive predictive value of 87.3% for certain test combinations.

Yersiniosis is a foodborne infection caused by Yersinia enterocolitica or Yersinia pseudotuberculosis. Although yersiniosis is most often self-limiting, some patients develop chronic infections, such as reactive arthritis, glomerulonephritis, or myocarditis, which require an antibiotic treatment. Whereas early infections can be diagnosed by direct detection of bacteria, chronic infections can only be identified by serological tests.

Article Synopsis
  • - Aim: The study aimed to investigate how epicardial adiposity (fat around the heart) affects the risk and severity of coronary atherosclerosis in men with ischemic heart disease.
  • - Methodology: Researchers analyzed metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors in 138 men, ages 46-65, and measured the thickness of epicardial fat using echocardiography alongside performing coronary angiography.
  • - Findings: The study found that greater epicardial fat thickness was linked to more severe coronary atherosclerosis, with an 80.4% sensitivity and 67.6% specificity in predicting significant atherosclerosis, also highlighting factors like age, leptin, resistin, and waist circumference as contributing risks.

Three foreign and one Russian ELISA test-systems for detection of IgM to Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato were comparatively studied with the use of the clinical material in an encoded experiment. In the foreign ELISA test-systems based on the use of native antigens of borrelia, cross reactions with sera from patients with syphilis, Epstein-Barr infection, cytomegalovirus infection and systemic lupus erythematosus were detected. The Russian recombinant ELISA test-system Borreliosis-ELISA-IgM showed high sensitivity and specificity.
