[Immediate results of gastrectomy in cancer of the stomach].

Based upon an analysis of results of gastrectomies in 463 patients with gastric cancer the authors discuss problems of diagnostics, indications for operation, preoperative management, operation technique and postoperative therapy. During the period of from 1967 to 1986 postoperative lethality was reduced from 13.1 to 4.

[Prognosis of the long-term results of selective proximal vagotomy].

A selective proximal vagotomy risk map was created on the basis of risk factors of selective proximal vagotomy (SPV). The severity of initial state of the patient was determined by the map and expressed in scoring system. Four degrees of risk of unfavourable remote results of the operative procedure were established.

Concentrations of 3 beta-hydroxy androgens in epithelium and stroma of benign hyperplastic and normal human prostate.

Androgen metabolites with 3 beta-hydroxy configuration--ie, dehydroepiandrosterone (3 beta-hydroxy-5-androsten-17-one, DHEA), 5-androstene-3 beta-17 beta-diol (A-Diol), and 5 alpha-androstane-3 beta, 17 beta-diol (3 beta-Diol)--were measured by radioimmunoassay in the homogenate, in the mechanically separated epithelium and stroma, and in the nuclear fractions of epithelium and stroma of benign hyperplastic (BPH) and normal human prostatic tissue, in muscle homogenates and in plasma. The main results were: 1) Mean prostatic DHEA, A-Diol and 3 beta-Diol were 6-7 times as high as plasma values (1 g = 1 ml). Compared to muscle, prostatic values were more than tenfold higher.

Nuclei of stroma: site of highest estrogen concentration in human benign prostatic hyperplasia.

In an earlier publication we found significantly more estrogen receptor-positive cases in the stroma if compared with the epithelium of human benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). We were therefore interested to find out whether this preferential assay of estrogen receptor in stroma is reflected by a higher estrogen content in this tissue fraction. Estradiol (E2) and estrone (E1) were measured by RIA in whole BPH tissue, stroma, and epithelium as well as in the nuclear fraction of stroma and epithelium.

The protective effect of AESe, 2-ASe, and Se-MEG during irradiation with a dose rate of 500 R/min was followed. The protective effect of 2-ASe is substantially lower during the dose rate of 20 R/min and even during an increased dose. AESe and Se-MEG are noneffective.

The time dependence of the distribution of 2-aminoselenoazoline-75Se in the organism of rats and mice was followed. By comparison of the results obtained with the previous study of radioprotective properties of this compound, its efficiency was shown to be dependent on the actual concentration in tissues.

Radioprotective properties of Se-2-aminoethylioselenouronium bromide hydrobromide, 2-aminoselenoazoline and of selenium analogue of mercaptoethylguanidine were followed. Radio-protective effectiveness comparable with classical thiol radioprotectiva was manifested by 2-aminoselenoazoline. In the other two compounds there was on the contrary found a synergism of toxicity and radiation.
