Median sternotomy is one of the most common procedures in cardiac surgery. This corresponds to the relatively high frequency of infections where surgical incisions are performed. In the prevention of healing disorders, the medical staff intervention is important, as is the patient.

So far, it has been realized in multilayer graphene and other van der Waals (2D crystals with hexagonal or triangular crystalline symmetries, leading to isotropic frictionless contacts. Directional structural superlubricity, to date unrealized in 2D systems, is possible when the reciprocal lattices of the two crystals coincide in one direction only.

Damage to the platelets of mitochondria as a result of their interactions with reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) can lead to their numerous ischemic events associated with hypoxia or hyperoxia processes in the cell. Disturbances in redox reactions in the platelet mitochondrial membrane lead to the direct oxidation of cellular macromolecules, including nucleic acids (DNA base oxidation), membrane lipids (lipid peroxidation process) and cellular proteins (formation of reducing groups in repair proteins and amino acid peroxides).

In particular, we show that the spiking and so-called delayed bursting regimes of the model are triggered by discontinuity-induced bifurcations that are directly related to the multiple-timescale aspect of the model, and are mediated by canard solutions. By means of a numerical bifurcation analysis of the model, using the software package COCO, we can precisely describe the mechanisms behind these dynamical scenarios.

Resistance welding, a fusion bonding method, offers significant advantages over adhesive bonding and mechanical joining by eliminating the need for additional adhesive materials and enabling integration into automated manufacturing processes. The study highlights the unique benefits of resistance welding, including lower energy consumption compared to other methods and its compatibility with automated manufacturing, which can reduce production costs by up to 40%.

This study aimed to examine KYNA's capacity to modify gene expression and the activity of cellular antioxidant enzymes in specific structures of the sheep brain. Anestrous sheep were infused intracerebroventricularly with two KYNA doses-lower (4 × 5 μg/60 μL/30 min, KYNA20) and higher (4 × 25 μg/60 μL/30 min, KYNA100)-at 30 min intervals.

Widely used metal deposition methods lead to unfavorable Fermi level pinning effect (FLP), which prevents control over the Schottky barrier height at the metal/2D material junction. We propose to harness the FLP effect to lower contact resistance in field-effect transistors (FETs) by using an additional 2D interlayer at the conducting channel and metallic contact interface (under-contact interlayer).

As a result of research on the conditions of the Passerini reaction, the important role of the hydroxyl group in the salicylaldehyde used in the course of the multicomponent reaction was revealed. When an aldehyde with an unprotected hydroxyl group is used, only two-component α-hydroxy amide products are obtained.

Recently, kynurenic acid (KYNA), knowns for its neuroprotective properties, has gained increasing attention in this context. Therefore, our hypothesis assumed that increased KYNA levels in the brain would positively influence mRNA expression of selected enzymes of the base excision repair pathway as well as enhance their efficiency in excising damaged nucleobases in specific areas of the sheep brain.

Although metformin is generally well-tolerated, it may cause gastrointestinal adverse effects and, in rare cases, precipitate lactic acidosis, necessitating cautious use in individuals with renal dysfunction. Additionally, concerns regarding its impact on hepatic function have led to its discontinuation in cirrhotic patients.

A total of 6727 rotationally resolved transitions to levels situated in the inner well and above the internal barrier were identified and a potential energy curve allowing to reproduce their energies was constructed using the Fourier grid Hamiltonian and inverted perturbation approach methods. The unambiguity of the potential curve in view of lack of data related to levels located in the outer well is discussed.

This conflict particularly affects the materials when calcium phosphates, including nHAp, are used as a filler in composites in thermal processing applications such as 3D printing with fused filament fabrication (FFF). To overcome this, we propose a one-step surface modification of nHAp with calcium stearate monolayer.

The scanning nature of SPM, wherein a sharp tip rasters the surface during which a physical setpoint is maintained via a control feedback loop, often implies that the image is subject to drift effects, leading to distortion of the resulting image. While there are in-operando methods to compensate for the drift, correcting the residual linear drift in obtained images is often neglected.

Computer simulations of reactions on TPMS using reactive intermolecular potentials hold great promise for constructing and screening potential TPMS with the desired properties. Here, we developed an off-lattice, surface-constrained Metropolis Monte Carlo (SC-MMC) algorithm that utilized a temperature quench process.

Hyperlipidemia is a significant risk factor for acute cardiac events due to its association with oxidative stress. This leads to arterial wall remodeling, including an increase in the thickness of the intima media complex (IMT), and endothelial dysfunction leading to plaque formation.

The previously developed enzyme-catalysed Kabachnik-Fields protocol allowed us to obtain the studied compounds with high yields which were free from metal impurities. The structure-activity relationship revealed that inhibitory activity is strongly related to the presence of the trifluoromethyl group (CF-) in the coumarin scaffold.
