An automated microfluidic-based immunoassay cartridge for allergen screening and other multiplexed assays.

A microfluidic cartridge and system for multiplexed immunoassays is described. The passive microfluidic cartridge was composed of three layers of injection molded plastic sealed together using a thermal staking technique. Using this platform technology, a specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) panel assay was constructed.

Detection of dengue viruses in field caught male Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus (Diptera: Culicidae) in Singapore by type-specific PCR.

Field male Aedes aegypti (L.) and Aedes albopictus (Skuse) adults caught from fixed monitoring stations weekly for 1 yr were screened for dengue viruses (DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3, and DEN-4). The assay was carried out using a single-step reverse transcription (or transcriptase)-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) (RT-PCR) followed by a semi-nested PCR using an upstream consensus primer and four type-specific primers within the nonstructural protein three gene (NS3) of dengue viruses.

[Fulminating adenovirus pneumonia: report of one case].

Adenoviral pneumonia, while most common in infancy and young childhood, is rare in school childhood. Here, we report one case, a 13 years old otherwise healthy girl, suffered from fulminating pneumonia caused by adenovirus infection. She had dry cough, pharyngitis, lethargy, myalgia and fever in the beginning.

[Solitary diverticulum of ascending colon induced internal intestinal herniation: report of one case].

Colonic diverticula are generally multiple and occur most commonly in the descending and sigmoid colon. Solitary ascending colonic diverticulum is a rare pathology and presents several features which separate it from colonic diverticulosis. It is a true diverticulum.
