A dynamic content of ceruloplasmin and medium-molecular peptides were studied in the blood serum of 28 patients with an acute clinical course of myeloblast-type leucosis during a scheduled chemotherapy. The mentioned biochemical criteria were shown to be able to characterize indirectly an intensity of the clinical course, functional liver condition and the efficiency of chemotherapy.

Alterations in activity of cathepsin D as well as in content of polyamines spermine, spermidine, x-fraction (apparently, acetyl spermidine) and putrescine were studied in blood platelets depending on conditions of conservation. The enzyme activity and content of polyamines correlated directly with duration of the cell concentrates storage. Cathepsin D and polyamines appear to be involved in responses to stress adaptation.

Cytochemical parameters of intracellular metabolism of leukemia cells and bone marrow polyamines were studied in 113 acute lymphoblastic leukemia patients aged from 1 to 14 years. The parameters analyzed characterized the severity of the disease course, cytostatic therapy effectiveness and primary resistance. It is shown that determination of biochemical and cytochemical criteria before the beginning of acute lymphoblastic leukemia therapy may be conducive to the correct choice of treatment.

Relationship between elevated putrescine level in urine and its presence in the blood and bone marrow was analyzed in 44 children with acute leukemia in the active stage. It has been shown that putrescine is a marker of activation of leukemic proliferation that is confirmed by the disease course character in patients with elevated putrescine level in urine (66.3 +/- 5.

Content of polyamines and extracellular DNA were studied in blood of patients with acute leukoses which did not respond to chemotherapy. Concentration of total polyamines was distinctly lower in blood of patients with acute lymphoblast and myeloblast leukoses as compared with healthy persons. Free and total polyamines were unaltered in blood of these patients after cytostatic therapy.

The authors reported the results of retrospective analysis of the level of polyamines in urine and the duration of clinicohematological remission in 25 AL children aged 3 to 14. Of this number 23 patients suffered from acute lymphoblastic leukemia, 2--from acute myeloblastic leukemia. Direct correlation between polyamine changes during a course of chemotherapy and the duration of remission was established.
