[The impact of components of conventional and genetically modified soybeans on parameters of the immune and reproductive systems in female rats].

The article presents results of research of the content of glycoproteins and their specific carbohydrate components, total protein, hemoglobin, erythrocyte, leucocytes molecules of average mass and circulating immune complexes in the blood of female rats under conditions feeding of conventional and transgenic soybeans. Also the reproductive function and mass coefficient of fetus of the studied animals was analyzed. The studies were conducted in three groups of female rats aged 3 months.

[Human arginase I from the recombinant yeast Hansenula polymorpha: isolation and characterization of the enzyme].

Purified human arginase I preparations homogeneous in SDS-PAAG test were obtained by the affinity chromatography on the synthesized sorbent L-arginine-macroporous glass. Some physico-chemical characteristics of the isolated arginase preparation have been estimated: thermo- and pH-stability, temperature- and pH-optima of the enzyme. The influence of some bivalent metal ions and other additives on enzymatic activity for stabilization of the enzyme and optimization of its storage conditions was studied.

[Efficacy of phenotropil in the rehabilitation of stroke patients].

We studied 400 patients with ischemic stroke, including 200 patients (the main group), who received 3 courses of phenotropil in the complex rehabilitation treatment in dosage 400 mg/day during 1 year after stroke. The extent of restoration of neurologic functions and daily living activities was assessed with Barthel, Lindmark, Scandinavian scales and Merton and Sutton scale. [Assessment of human health in the areas adjacent to a large industrial center].

The paper presents data on morbidity in the population living in the suburban area of an industrial center (the city of Ryazan), by taking into account gross ambient emission from the stationary sources, ambient pollution levels, and a sanitary assessment of the quality of life. Differences were found only in the extent of specific emission (per km2 and per capita). The studies in the 1991-2006 changes in the health status of the children living in the suburban areas indicated that the average many years' morbidity rates were significantly less than those in the city (other than diseases of blood and blood organs), but these were at the level of the average regional rates.

[Organization and execution of the use of disinfectants, insecticides and rodenticides in the period of the eradication of the medical and sanitary consequences of a flood in Stavropol Territory in 2002].

Materials on the organization and execution of disinfection, disinfestations and deratization works at the period of the liquidation of the medico-sanitary consequences of the high flood in the Stavropol Territory in 2002 are presented. Timely and full-scope treatment, carried out in the course of these works, played a positive role in preventing epidemiological aggravations among the affected population.

[Realization of antimalarial measures in the period of eradication of the consequences of a flood in the Stavropol Territory in 2002].

As the result of the high flood, an increase in the area of anopheligenic water reservoirs occurred on the inundated territories, which created favorable conditions for the proliferation of Anopheles mosquitoes, the vectors of malarial plasmodia, thus creating the threat of the formation of the local sources of malaria in case of its penetration from other regions unfavorable with respect to this disease. In the affected towns and regions hydrotechnical measures aimed at decreasing the surface of anopheligenic water reservoirs, as well as measures aimed at the decrease in the number of the larval and imaginal stages in the development of mosquitoes, were taken, which made it possible to prevent the probable epidemiological aggravations in malaria.

[Prevention of acute enteric infections and viral hepatitis A in the Stavropol Territory in connection with a natural disaster].

Materials on the organization and realization of prophylactic measures with respect to acute enteric infections (AEI) and viral hepatitis A (VHA) at the period of the liquidation of medico-sanitary consequences of the high flood are presented. As shown in these materials, the epidemiological surveillance on AEI and VHA in the areas affected by the emergency situation included the effective system of monitoring on these diseases. On the basis of monitoring optimum decisions were taken and concrete prophylactic measures were realized.

[Organization of the workers of the State Sanitary and Epidemiologic Services of the Stavropol Territory in the period of eradication of the consequences of the flood in urban and rural regions of the Territory in 2002].

As the result of high flood occurring during the period of June 21-22, 2002, in the Stavropol Territory, 65 settlements were affected. About 200,000 inhabitants found themselves lacking centralized drinking water supply. From the very first days of the emergency situation the state sanitary and epidemiological service took a complex of measures aimed at the liquidation of the medico-sanitary consequences of the high flood, the prevention of the appearance of mass infectious diseases among the affected population.

[Basic measures for prevention of the epidemiological consequences of a natural disaster in the North Caucasus in 2002].

The system of organizational and prophylactic measures, carried out with a view to prevent epidemiological aggravations in connection with the natural calamity in the Southern Federal District of the Russian Federation in 2003, is described. Proposals on the improvement of the system of preventive measures, including the monitoring of the epidemiological, sanitary and hygienic situation, personnel training, technical provision, the cooperation of different services and departments, capable of ensuring the liquidation of the consequences of emergency situations of the natural character, are made.

[Emergency situations in the North Caucasus and role of specific immunoprophylaxis in eradication and prevention of epidemiological consequences].

Information on emergency situations (ES) on the territory of the North Caucasus from the 90s of the last century till the present moment is presented. The importance of the specific immunoprophylaxis of infections for the liquidation of epidemiological aggravations in ES and for their prevention is shown. Information on the scope of specific immunoprophylaxis in the zones of ES and on different approaches to its carrying out.

[The role of a family doctor in oncological care of the population].

The actual tasks faced by the family physician in the field of oncology can be considered in eight lines of activities according to successive stages of management of patients, that include identification and monitoring of risk factors; screening of early forms of cancer; diagnosis that must be based on results of the screening during the regular health checkups of patients and their applying for medical advice; primary finding out the extent of the process (staging); rendering the patient and his/her family phychological support; the family physician's work together with that of the oncologist; keeping the patient and his/her family under medical surveillance; terminal stages management.

[Spread of infection with hepatitis B and C viruses in different population groups of north-western Ukraine].

The detection rate of specific markers of hepatitides B and C among the child and adult population, including 487 children in 5 boarding schools, 338 oncological, hematological, urological patients and 206 medical staff members in Rovno and the Rovno region (North-Western Ukraine), was determined. [The pharmacoeconomics of testicular cancer in Ukraine].

An ever-growing cost of health care in Ukraine attest to the need for an optimum employment of resources in diagnosing and treating disorders of major public health significance, testicular carcinoma (TC) among their number. The authors consider it expedient to ascertain TC costs and design an analytical framework for the diagnostic and therapeutic options to be assessed properly. The following combination chemotherapy regimens were found to be associated with high response rates and acceptable longterm survival: BEP, PE programmes for primary treatment and PEI programme for recurrent or refractory TC.

[The prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting during cancer chemotherapy].

From the point of view of patients nausea and vomiting is a very important side effect of chemotherapy. The above events can be successfully controlled with modern antiemetic therapy. Use of high doses of metoclopramide in combination with dexamethasone and lorazepame is one of the routine means of administration of chemotherapeutic treatments with the benefit being derived in 30 to 70% of patients.

[Effect of trans-ACPD, a specific agonist of glutamate interacting with metabotropic receptors, on synaptic transmission in the rat hippocampus].

Trans-ACPD, a cyclic analogue of glutamate, has been studied for its influence on field potentials and excitatory postsynaptic currents (EPSCs) in the CA1 layer. Being applied in concentration 50 microM and above, trans-ACPD completely and reversibly inhibited excitatory postsynaptic field potentials but has no effect on EPSCs. Trans-ACPD in the same concentration reversibly reduced the amplitude of antidromic population spike in the CA1 layer, but has an insignificant effect on antidromic population spike in the CA3 layer.

[Analysis of synaptic transmission in rat hippocampal slices using a modified method of potential fixation].

A new approach for the whole-cell recording in slices is suggested as simpler and less expensive one than those known before. Electrophysiological characteristics of excitatory postsynaptic currents are obtained. Two types of glutamate receptors are shown to be involved.

[Effect of carbonic acid on glutamate dehydrogenase interaction with NADH].

The method of fluorescent titration was used to study the effect of carbonic acid on the process of NADH binding with the purified preparation of glutamate dehydrogenase as well as on fluorescent properties of the above mentioned coenzyme. It is shown that in bicarbonate buffer at the alkaline values of pH there is a decrease in the maximal capacity of the binding sites of the enzyme with low affinity to co-enzyme. The capacity of high-affinity binding sites in this case is unchanged.

[Clinico-epidemiological characteristics of diseases caused by halophilic vibrios along the coast of the Sea of Azov].

The epidemiological and clinical features of alimentary toxinfections caused by halophilic vibrios on the Crimean coast of the Sea of Azov at the period of 1976-1984 were studied. Toxinfections were linked mainly with the use of sea-food subjected to different kinds of culinary treatment and took the course of gastroenteritis. To prevent toxinfections caused by halophilic vibrios, the technology, as well as sanitary and hygienic norms, should be strictly observed in the production of sea-food; besides, special methods of bacteriological diagnosis should be introduced into practice at laboratories of medical institutions and fish-processing plants.

[Potentials of paired bicycle ergometry tests in assessing the functional state of the cardiovascular system in ischemic heart disease patients with attacks of stenocardia of effort].

Cardiovascular response to physical stress simulated by paired bicycle ergometry was evaluated in 33 patients with coronary disease of functional class 3 or 4, within 1-1.5 months after myocardial infarction. In third-class patients, stress tolerance and hemodynamic support improved after the second bicycle ergometry performed 30 minutes after the first test.
