Objective: Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are important regulators of adipogenesis and may play a role in obesity. In this study, the hypothesis that BMP2 is related to adipose tissue (AT) distribution in obesity was tested.
Methods: BMP2 serum concentration (n = 439) and BMP2 and Schnurri-1 and -2 mRNA expression were measured in paired samples of visceral and subcutaneous AT from 547 individuals with a wide range of body mass index.

Immunotherapies revolutionised the treatment of several disorders but show specific side-effect profiles which frequently involve psychological symptoms. Long term interferon-alpha (IFN-alpha) therapy can cause wide-ranging psychiatric side-effects from fatigue, insomnia, anxiety to full-blown depression. This treatment-emergent depression shares several symptoms with major depressive disorder (MDD) with a predominance of somatic/neurovegetative symptoms, and can be treated with antidepressants.

We hypothesized that a GWAS of an integrated assessment of fasting and dynamic measures of insulin sensitivity would detect novel common variants. We performed a GWAS of the modified Stumvoll Insulin Sensitivity Index (ISI) within the Meta-Analyses of Glucose and Insulin-Related Traits Consortium.

Here, we tested the hypothesis that introgression of a Repin1 deletion into db/db mice improves glucose metabolism in vivo. We generated a whole body Repin1 deficient db/db double knockout mouse (Rep1(-/-)x db/db) and systematically characterized the consequences of Repin1 deficiency on insulin sensitivity, glucose and lipid metabolism parameters and fat mass.

Partial Least Squares Correlation (PLSC) is a frequently used method for multivariate multimodal data integration. It is, however, computationally expensive in applications involving large numbers of variables, as required, for example, in genetic neuroimaging.

Here we have investigated the effects of the selective NCX blocker SEA0400 in human right atrial cardiomyocytes from patients in sinus rhythm (SR) and AF in order to obtain electrophysiological evidence for putative antiarrhythmic activity of this new class of drugs. Action potentials were measured in right atrial trabeculae using conventional microelectrodes.

Here we tested the hypothesis that HIF3A mRNA expression and CpG-sites methylation in adipose tissue (AT) and genetic variants in HIF3A are related to parameters of AT distribution and function. In paired samples of subcutaneous AT (SAT) and visceral AT (VAT) from 603 individuals, we measured HIF3A mRNA expression and analyzed its correlation with obesity and related traits.

Through genomewide association study of up to 30 884 adults of European ancestry from 21 studies, we confirmed and extended the list of previously identified loci associated with circulating IGF-I and IGFBP-3 concentrations (IGF1, IGFBP3, GCKR, TNS3, GHSR, FOXO3, ASXL2, NUBP2/IGFALS, SORCS2, and CELSR2). Significant sex interactions, which were characterized by different genotype-phenotype associations between men and women, were found only for associations of IGFBP-3 concentrations with SNPs at the loci IGFBP3 and SORCS2.

Methods: Prospective population-based observational study capturing all episodes of SH between 2007 and 2014 in the Lippe-Detmold area. SH was defined as a symptomatic event requiring treatment with intravenous glucose or administration of glucagon and being confirmed by a blood glucose measurement of <2.

In the following study, we examine the connection between crime and gambling addictions. In addition to examining the playing habits of 140 detainees prior to their imprisonment, we also study their demographic characteristics, and their relations.(2) We previously studied these correlations as a part of a data recording in 2009 (Tessényi-Kovács, 2011).

However, the contribution of distorted parental transmission of alleles to risk of type 2 diabetes has been mostly unexplored. Our goal was therefore to search for parent-of-origin effects (POE) among type 2 diabetes loci in families.

A software-based image fusion would facilitate combined image reading of CT and PET data sets if hardware image fusion is not available. To analyze the relevance of retrospective image fusion of separately acquired PET and CT data sets, we studied the accuracy, practicability and reproducibility of three different image registration techniques.

Accordingly, neuroimmune crosstalk has a considerably large impact on brain development during early ontogenesis. While a plethora of heterogeneous abnormalities have already been described in established maternal immune activation (MIA) rodent and primate animal models, which highly correlate to those found in human diseases, the underlying molecular background remains obscure.

We sought to identify novel loci associated with circulating VEGF levels through a genome-wide association meta-analysis combining data from European-ancestry individuals and using a dense variant map from 1000 genomes imputation panel. Six discovery cohorts including 13,312 samples were analyzed, followed by in-silico and de-novo replication studies including an additional 2,800 individuals.

In this paper we use a multidimensional sampling model for describing the display-camera channel. Based on the model, for a given display passband, we propose a methodology for determining the optimal distribution of ray generators in a projection-based light field display.

Higher interleukin-1β levels are found in mood spectrum disorders, and the stress-induced expression rate of the interleukin-1β gene (IL1B) is altered by polymorphisms in the region. Therefore we examined the effects of rs16944 and rs1143643 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within the IL1B gene on depressive and anxiety symptoms, as measured by the Brief Symptom Inventory, in a Hungarian population sample of 1053 persons.

Low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDLR) have been termed candidate receptors for HCV-LDL complexes. Functional host genetic single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene encoding apolipoprotein E (apoE) - a major structural LDL component and natural ligand of LDLR - likely influence the course of HCV infection.

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) has emerged as a potent biomarker for depression as its elevated plasma levels in patients with clinical depression have been confirmed by meta-analyses. Increased plasma IL-6 concentration was associated with various psychological stress factors and physical disorders accompanied by pain. Another modulator of the IL-6 level is rs1800795, a promoter polymorphism in the IL-6 gene which is able to influence its expression rate.
